I had Ghost on draft this past weekend at Chimes East and Chimes Highland.

I loved the first half of each pour, but at the end of each, it was too much like a Vodka and grapefruit juice for me. It was almost shandy like.

For you overly sensitive types, let me repeat: FOR ME.

My compadres, who had never had it at all, loved it.

That's criminal!

It was $8 for 13 oz I think.

Edit: $9.50, so not much better.

I was on vacation, where common sense goes out the window.

GITM is way too bitter for my taste.
jucifer is much more pleasing to drink, and is quite a bit cheaper

Well, one is the brewery, and the other is a bar/restaurant, so there is quite a difference.

And I see the Ghosty's are butthurt even with my disclaimer.

My buddy had one this weekend in MS (draft; $8 for 12 oz) and I had some. No idea how it's been in previous years, but this was the least-bitter IPA I've ever had, and I'm not a fan of bitter IPAs. I've heard this year's version is different FWIW.

I'll never understand this argument though. Why is it OK for a restaurant or bar to price gouge, but if a brewery wants to sell a special release beer for more than an average beer, people get all up in arms?

At the $9.75/13oz or $17/22oz price point, the restaurants will gross $450-$475 on a single keg that cost them $135.

Why is someone who is willing to pay $9.75 for a 13oz pour (which doesn't even include tax and tip yet) someone who will balk about the price of a $5.50 16oz can (that includes tax)? It baffles me.

There was no way for it to live up to the hype this board has given it.

Because they are buying one, more than likely. Not 24 for $132. Not saying there is any logic there, but I think that way sometimes.

I hear you.
I'm just saying that beer prices at restaurants are always higher.

Just like everything else.

I wasn't criticizing GITM with my original post. That much juice is just not my style. The guys with me loved it.

While true, I am willing to admit that it is really good. But after about 6 oz it was too much juice for me.

For a double IPA I'd rather have Cosmic Debris.

I know you're not criticizing it. I'm just wondering why we as a society accept that beer prices are insanely high at restaurants and bars, and we have no problem paying those prices. I'm guilty of it too. I bought a $7 pint of a beer at a restaurant the other day that I have in my fridge at $9/6-pack at both the taproom and the local grocery store.

Then ask for a half pour. Should still be reasonably cold towards the end unless you are taking 30 minutes to drink it.

We are funny creatures.

That would have been a great idea.
