Why would you want to eat there even if they were open? Food is bland as shite

Yep still closed. Highland location is alive and well, though, if you're craving George's.
I go to George's every Saturday because I like hanging out in there for a few hours, but there's certainly a whole lot of other places with better food.
Assuming you're going same style of food/price range -
Overpass Merchant
Curbside
Chimes
Red Zeppelin Pizza
Phil's
Parrain's
Rock Paper Taco
Jed's Local
Ivar's (just for wings)

I like their chicken avocado clubsandwich, but obviously it's been a while.

Never had it. I’ve heard George’s East has been good since the kids took over. I might have to give that a try sometime.

Thanks. Yeah taking nephew and niece for late lunch then bringing them to highland Park to play.

Oh, then George's on Highland is perfect. They always have little league teams and whatnot in there on Saturdays.

Get the Camp Water. I'm hooked on this drink.

Wish it would reopen it was a great neighborhood bar……during football season…

The owner of the Highland George's has already indicated he wants to reopen the one under the overpass, I'm guessing it has to go through the family since Smokey passed.
Plus that whole area is going to be a mess once the interstate widening project gets underway. I can see a lot of those restaurants shutting down for awhile or start looking for new locations.

Iirc, pretty much none of the restaurants have to do anything with the most recent plans. Even the Merchant, which is pretty much under the interstate doesnt have to move.
I wouldnt quote me on this since it was hearsay

Did Tony actually buy the Southside location?

Went to the other one and food was delicious. Thanks again!

From what I have been told, Tony is waiting on figures from the kids. He wants to buy it but someone told me yesterday that they (mostly Smokey's son) are likely to want more than what it is worth. Should know something late summer early fall. Pretty sure Smokey's son has the George O'Neal location so guess he will take over Highland if Tony doesn't buy it.
ALSO...the Perkins location is never going to open as Smokey's kids are selling all the property over there plus the building George's was in is in bad shape.
