Get the bones out, bake it with no seasoning at all..then let it cool ...give it to your dog. Good protein and they'll love you for it.

No, but looks just like my Mags. Had her for 16 years. She passed 4 years ago. In fact, I met my wife through my black lab. She, the wife, fell in love with my dog...and had to take me in the bargain.

My grandparents used to cook it on occasion. They would make a gar roast. It was a giant slab of gar, stuffed with a ton of green onion, garlic, and black pepper. I used to love it. I'm guessing the strong flavors masked any funny fishy notes.

I had a video of the guys catching that beast in the picture posted earlier in this thread. They shot it a few times bowfishing and waited it out. It was hilarious watching those two guys try to get that monster into their boat. Unfortunately, the video was on my old laptop that got fried. It was caught at Sam Rayburn

About 20 years ago we were shrimping behind G.I. and caught about a 40-50 pound alligator gar. We had to kill it to get it out of the net. Then we said what do we do with it now. Long story short, we get back to the dock and there was a brotha at the dock and he couldn't wait to take it off our hands. He said ohh, we gonna have a party in White Castle tonite.

Pops used to make his gas money this way in high school. Said he would fray a nylon rope and catch them on Lafourche. Then go sell them at the dock.
