Lonesome Dove Bistro. Haven’t been in a few years, but had a couple of excellent meals there.

All good suggestions so far...I will also add:

Nonna Tata on Magnolia for homestyle italian. This is not a terribly nice place, it only seats about 15 people, but the food was excellent. Walking around Magnolia before/after dinner isn't a bad way to kill some time either.

Heim has great BBQ.

The Woodshed has a decent, creative menu with a good atmosphere on the river/live music/etc.

If you are downtown, the rooftop bar at Reata is a great place for before dinner drinks.

Bird Cafe in Sundance Square offers good people watching if you grab an outdoor table.
