used to put down some swill Margaritas at Tampico back in the day. Only good thing about Pasados was watching tortillas fall down the press slide and the ice cream cone. I can buy ice cream anywhere.

They had good steak fajitas and me and my wife loved their tortillas. But I’m not sad to see it go, there is a mexican restaurant on every corner.

I dug up an old post of mine from TD which says it all...

quote:

Here's my lone experience with Posados. I was in Lafayette on business by myself, so I sat at the bar to eat instead of a table. It was about 9:10. I generally don't go into restaurants in the last hour, but I needed to eat. I had a seat as the bartender was doing her closing side work, transporting glass racks, etc. "I'll be right with you." There was only one other table in the place except for me. Obviously, her side work was more important than customer service. 15 minutes later, she finally asks me what I want to drink. There were Pacifico signs all around the bar area, and I ordered one. She said that they discontinued carrying it, even with a bunch of signs advertizing it. She then takes my order...fish tacos. She asks me if I want the fish grilled or fried, and I went with grilled. Soft or hard tortillas...soft. Now it's after 9:30 and someone brought my food out. She looks at the person who brought it from the kitchen and says that the tortillas should have been soft. At this point, I'm starving and said that I would eat what was brought out. She paid no attention to my request and insisted that they adjust the order, thinking she was doing me a favor. The last thing I want is a kitchen that's closing within a half hour to reassemble my food. I've worked in enough kitchens to know it's not a good thing. The tacos come out again, and they're fricking shrimp tacos. Bartender is no where around. I begin eating. When she finally checks on me, I asked what kind of fish were in my tacos because they tasted like shrimp (lol...they obviously were shrimp). She apologized and said that the kitchen must have messed up. I get my receipt, and shrimp tacos were wrung up. Not only did she suck, but she tried pawning her incompetence on the kitchen. In all, a complete customer service fail. Sorry, had to vent. Won't be back.

El Patrillo and Los Mayas are good authentic Mexican joints.

My uncle used to be a regional manager for them in the 90’s-early 2000’s... I bartended there for a while in Shreveport on my college breaks. Corporate was piss poor run back then, can’t imagaine now

Is that the one in front of Walmart? Been a while since I've been, but it didn't seem like anything special when I have eaten there. El Potrillo was always my favorite there in Laffy, but I've heard it isn't good anymore.

I used to go to El Potrillo around 2006-2007 and enjoyed it. I left town and returned in 2016. El Potrillo was a shadow it itself. As for Posado's, I suspect the cheaper El Paso right next door put a big dent in their business. I've never been to El Paso. I know it is a chain.

Not one damn place here (that I know of) makes their own tortillas.

Not saying it's a good mexican restaurant, but the 2 Stripes gas stations have real mexicans making their own tortillas on site

And maybe Chuoy's does too?

I left Lafayette in 2014 and they were still good. Stopped in once when I passed through in 2016, and the taco shells seemed a bit stale. I was talking to a friend of mine a few months back, me and her always talk about going meeting there when I pass through, and she said it had gotten pretty bad there. Said she's been going to one in Breaux Bridge now she liked. I haven't been to El Paso either, I tend to avoid the chains, at least those with more than 2-3 locations.

They have Stripes gas stations in Lafayette now? I see them a lot when traveling west Texas or New Mexico. They have some decent hot dogs, lot of times 2 for $1.50. Didn't realize they had made if this far over.
