I haven't seen these in years and assume they're extinct.

2 things that still exist but not in the same way they used to exist:

Hostess cup cakes, ding dongs, twinkies, and zingers from like 5 years ago....simply not the same as I grew up with since the naming rights were sold.

Also fresh donuts with actual icing from Dunkin Donuts - they sure don't seem the same as they used to either. I got a vanilla long john the other day and the icing was almost clear and barely any plus the donut tasted like it was made the day before and not in the morning. Can't tell me they still get up early to make the donuts!!!

Dunkin’ Donuts are premade. They are shipped frozen and then are placed in a proofer for a little while, then sold as “fresh.”

My stock answer has always been Rax's roast beef sandwiches. Ate many of them when I was in my early 20's. That was nearly 30 years ago. The one that was my go to shop was on SSherwood Forest blvd next to Piccadilly.

There was a pastry chef on Carrolton that had his shop on the ground floor of his house on Carrolton in New Orleans. He was called the Bonbonneire.. He had cream puffs, eclairs, petit fours.. all fresh and hand made.
He was wiped out in Katrina and never returned.

I just looked him up to see where he was, and I see that he passed away in February of this year. So sad. Rest in peace, Hans Ludwig Fink, La Bonbonniere. LINK
