Why on earth would they attempt to replicate a failed business model?

It would be great if they used the old recipes to capitalize on the nostalgia and then do whatever other offerings in addition to. I'm 99% sure they used a provolone/ mozzarella blend unless they tweaked their recipe.

Amen to that. They were in business for 76 years. They must have been doing something right to have loyal customers. Joe Biden’s Covid BS crushed them and they loosed heart

Weird that so few other Baton Rouge restaurants got "crushed" by "Joe Biden's (Trump's?) Covid BS". Also weird that they cried on FB about no one wanting to work when they had a reputation for treating their employees like shite and no one else seemed to have any trouble hiring

But sure, the business model was great; the new owners of the building should definitely replicate everything they were doing

I had been a handful of times because my ex's family enjoyed it. The staff was rude every single time. They got mad if you wanted to have a conversation in the restaurant. The pizza was mediocre. Why did it survive? Because people in the local area had been going for years and are okay with eating the same things that bring them happiness. Tastes and cooking change. The same thing applies to TJ Ribs, Pastime, to name a few. They are held up solely from people who have been going to those places for decades. Also, only dealing in cash/forcing customers to use their ATM and pay a fee each time is ridiculous. It's about to be 2025 and you've got more businesses that allow you to pay through Venmo and Bitcoin than places that will ONLY accept cash.

Rocca just a mile down the road is infinitely better in quality, and has a much better atmosphere and waitstaff. Why would anyone want to go to hostile and dirty restaurant if there are legitimate delicious options nearby? Hell even Reginelli's is nowhere near as shitty as FDL was.

My neighbor recently stopped there on the way through Baton Rouge. He couldn't say enough good things about it.

Yup. Growing up in Lafayette, I compare it to Pete's. That tends to make the FDL apologists angry if they were familiar with Pete's

A few years ago while at Rocca, I had to take the wine bottle from my waitress and show her how to open it. I think she appreciated the gesture.

At FDL, you would have been kicked out for even ordering that much alcohol.

I wish we could see the downvotes. Probably the owners right now:

I seem to be the exception here as I liked the pizza. But you nailed the employee issue. I only did take out after the waiter flat insulted my buddy’s wife. He was in the bathroom at the time or he would have beat the waiters arse. As it was, I stood up and said “apologize” which he did. We paid for the beers and left. Never had that happen before and I eat out 3 or 4 times a week every week.
