Beat me to it. I tried to get away from it and go with better specialty, more expensive stuff. I got Sweet Baby Rays at Wal MArt for godsake. I found I was just wasting my time. It is what MY BBQ tastes like now. It mixed into ground meat with a little salt, pepper, and healthy poof of Tex Joy. MAkes a damned good burger. I also throw one link of boudin in the meat I mix as well to make them my own burgers.

BBQ Sauce
1 Large onion minced
1 Clove garlic
1 tsp Chili powder
½ tsp Cayenne
1 tsp Black pepper
1 cup Ketchup
2 tbsp Oil
2 tbsp Rice vinegar or cider vinegar
2 tbsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp Tabasco
3 tbsp L&P
¼ cup Cane syrup or honey or molasses
1 beer
Heat the oil and sauté the onion, when soft add the dry spices and heat till they bloom, about 2 minutes. Then add wet ingredients and simmer till you get the right consistency, about an hour. Let cool, then pass through a sieve to remove the onion pieces, store in squeeze bottle.

I would assume the vinegar gives it a "tang"?

Yep. You'll grill something just as an excuse to use this sauce. I make a double batch in the spring, depending on how many people talk me out of a bottle, it lasts me all summer.

Forgot to ask what this means.
And do you prefer the cane syrup, honey or molasses version?
I'm thinking molasses or cane for me.

'Blooming' means to heat spices in oil so they release all of their flavor. I love it with cane syrup because it is a favorite flavor of mine, molasses or honey would work well also.

1.) Dreamland
2.) Viper Sauce. "Sweet No Heat" and "Original
Spicy" (Made in Daphne Alabama)
3.) Wild-N-Mild. Discovered this at Hog Wild Festival in Mobile. Totally different and unique with a woodsy-peppery flavor. (Made in Petal Mississippi)
4.) All the Bullseye sauces.

Well damn, of course I tasted it. It tastes great.
I meant I think it will be great as a bbq sauce. I haven't had time to try it properly yet.

You'll find that the lower sugar level means it doesn't burn as quickly at the commercial sauces. Feel free to add more cayenne if you like it hot.
I also make a version for a diabetic friend. Use low sugar ketchup and splenda instead of cane syrup.
