For something a little more family style in the same neighborhood, try Venezia...excellent Italian food, and their House Special pizza is tremendous.

If you are at the Convention Center and want to walk to a restaurant, Mulates is across the street. Sun Ray Grill is walking distance. You could take the trolly that runs along the river to the French Quarter from the Convention Center. That would open up all of the French Quarter restaurants mentioned previously. Hard Rock and is kid friendly as far as menu items.

It was a joke hence the LOL emoticon. I do not particularly care for Mulates and would not be my first choice. I do not think the food is inedible. But then again I have not been there in about 5 years.
