the Eunice buzz was hotter than the Louisiana Tabasco sauce that comes with the restaurant’s to-die-for gumbo.

Leonard’s shrimp and andouille sausage gumbo with okra hits the mark with just the right amount of heat, a deep dark roux and succulent shrimp.

Lol

That menu looks pretty meh. This whole “upscale Cajun” is an oxymoron. Give me a plate lunch for $8 and it’ll be better than this place IMO.

Yeah their 25 cents/oyster happy hour from 4-6 is the shite. Best oysters in town IMO. Overall they’re a little pricey but they also have probably the best gumbo in town, though it was a bit too salty last time I went.

Long story short, my typical visit to Eunice consists of me going just for the great happy hour deal on oysters and drinks and then drinking too much and deciding to meander over to the dinner menu and leaving a couple hours later with a much lighter wallet.

Went last fall and it was average. I was, admittedly, expecting a kick arse meal.

My experience with Houston thus far is that might not be a high bar to get over. Don’t know why I keep trying to order gumbo at every half-way Louisiana food place we visit, but I’ve just got this habit of wanting to try a cup every time we visit a different place of that style.

My personal Top 2 in the Houston and surrounding burb area has been the seafood gumbo at Bayou Boys in Needville and the seafood at Roux Pour in Sugar Land. All other places have been mostly disappointments, with Ragin Cajun and BB’s being average/not too shabby.

I've been twice, last being a week ago. I really enjoyed it.

HEARTH ROASTED OYSTERS / FRIED BANDERA QUAIL

Duck Duck Rice. This was recommended by both servers, and it was an excellent dish.

GULF FISH (drum)
blue crab, cauliflower, brown butter, almonds

Bread Pudding (birthday candle optional)
