Their hush puppies are very good as well.

I used to work there and the hush puppies are great.

I agree with the other posters about the atmosphere sucking.

Yeah, that's SOP for the food board.

Well I'd rather listen to Tony Bennett than eat at Drusilla. When Bonnanos attorneys screwed him out of the place before the IRS seized it it was a rapid decline. I have had a couple lunches a year ago and not well received so its just off my radar, like Cafe Americane.

Maybe its ok now but I have to many other options to consider it.

I went their several times in the early 2000's and it was always good. The crab au gratin is very good, but rich.

Atmosphere want great and the chairs were terrible to sit in.

Amazing how these restaurant threads seem to go. They typically start with some bad reviews, criticisms, negative comments piled on top of one another. Then, someone drops a compliment and changes the momentum, and they're followed by a string of good reviews. It's almost like people are afraid to say they actually like a place for fear of being scorned. Then, one brave soul takes the plunge, and others get brave enough to 'fess up. Odd, huh?

This is not how "restaurant threads seem to go".. this is how restaurants that aren't that great go. There are PLENTY of restaurants that the board almost unanimously agrees are good (there are always a couple people making the exception).

With every bad restaurant, there are people who like it. It wouldn't be in business if everyone hated it. But there are plenty of restaurants in business that aren't that good.

I went to Drusilla Seafood 3-4 years ago, and that was my first time since childhood. It felt like Ralph and Kacoos in atmosphere: dated.. filled to the brim with blue haired folks..

I honestly don't remember what I ordered or how it tasted, but I just remember noting that I'd never have a reason to return. As far as fried seafood goes, I can get my fix at other places with a more lively atmosphere and a good fry kitchen. As far as a topped fish, that's something I generally only order at nicer places anyway.. but still I can get that done well at Louisiana Lagniappe, Parrains, etc. and they have better atmospheres.

Some think it's silly to judge restaurants on atmosphere, but I don't think so at all. You're paying a premium to be away from home. Someone else is preparing your meal, you're likely enjoying the company of others, etc. Going out for a meal is more than just putting food in your body so you don't die. There is nothing wrong a large group of people disliking a place because they're the youngest people in there and it's very outdated.

Those that like it.. GREAT! Maybe they are old.. or maybe they don't mind that atmosphere. Maybe they don't care to get fried seafood at other more lively places. Whatever their reason it, that's fine.

I just don't think you can take a thread about a place like Drusilla Seafood and say it's how all restaurant threads on TD go.

Well I left Drusilla very disappointed.

We had a group of ~35, so were given a very limited menu. I decided on the seafood feast($20), which was supposed to be fried catfish, shrimp and crab fingers. Towards the end when someone was ordering it, was mentioned that it would be crawfish tails instead of crab fingers.

It was all very mediocre. Crawfish tail and shrimps were tiny. The catfish I had at Hi Nabor on Friday was easily better. A couple of plates ordered by others had to be returned, but I rather not get into that.

There's no way I return back to this place.
