I went to Sullivan's back in December and was appalled to see some guy walking around in tennis shoes, his best khaki shorts and a COACH's polo.....seriously? At least put on PANTS. Act as though you may give a shite.

I think this is required uniform in Baton Rouge...

Personally, I think this is a Baton Rouge area issue. I know I'm gonna get slammed for saying this, but many people in Baton Rouge and the outerlying areas are accustomed to dressing for a tailgate. Many believe shorts, jorts or jeans and an LSU t-shirt are suitable when everyone else is in slacks, a long sleeve shirt and a tie. Dont get me wrong I love BR but I think we're just too used to being very casually dressed.
No this is all over and a sign of the times. I eat all over the country and it is just as bad whereever I am.

Definitely not a Baton Rouge thing. Baton Rouge is one of the more well dressed areas I've been around. As well as SEC country minus Florida.
The Jorts/Affliction types are coming from Livingston Parish and Gonzales types.
I agree at least wear some Khakis and a button down at any nice venue. A polo and jeans or khaki shorts is something I'd wear to a Chimes/Walk-on's joint.

Tourists bring NOLA down...if you go uptown to Clancy's, Gautreau's, Commander's, Brigsten's, etc. you find most, if not everyone, is in a sport coat or suit.

Not to mention that they all look like someone took them shopping to the same store - this seems to cover the age range of 18-60+, which is quite amazing in its own way.

So not only do we not have good restaurants, do not know how too cook, allow out of town people show us how to tailgate, have no clue what a po boy is, can't make bread or pizza, we now don't know how to dress? And I'm sure you are going to tell me you and everyone else on here from New Orleans are slaves to fashion.

You should have been a Plaintiff attorney...you are very good at twisting statements and fabrication.
BR does have good restaurants...not as many as it could/should have IMO. Laffy and Acadiana are the best home cooks by a mile...get over it. I have family all over both areas...no one competes with the Acadiana part of my family. BR people tailgate with the best of them....so does everyone in SLa. I have no clue about pizza in BR and have never held myself out to be any kind of expert on that issue. As far as bread/poboys (I combined them since I think I see what you are getting at, Chief), it is very hard to find a non-Manda roast beef/packaged gravy poboy in BR. This is something that could be easily changed.
As far as restaurant dress goes, no one in BR requires suit/jacket right? I wish more down here did...at minimum August and Stella! should...the only ones I am aware of are Galatoire's after 5pm and Sundays and CP on Sundays for brunch. It's ashame IMO.

Yep, Baton Rouge is pretty much the lowest slice of culture ever.
Posted on 4/24/09 at 10:36 am to MrKennedy
More than other cities its size as far as culture IMO....equal to Chatty, more than Jackson, Little Rock, etc.

I know, I was joking.
BR has the potential to be better... but then, most places do.

Nope. Pretty sure it started with all the dotcom millionaires. A bunch of people who made money without jumping through the usual hoops joined the fine dining crowd but still dressed like college slackers.

I can't think of a single place that couldn't be better. Everyone could in almost every category. Even in a city known/famous for something like NOLA is for food/music...I see areas where both could improve in greatly.

I would definitely start in other areas of NOLA besides food/drink - though I do wish the music world in NOLA "rocked" a lot more.
Stuff like Trombone Shorty bores me to tears, for example...

You mean people that earned ther own money? Sorry they didn't grow up with mommy laying out their suit every night before dinner.

I'm beginning to think it may be a generational thing.
Not so sure about that. I see older people guilty of it all the time. I was eating at Muriel's not that long ago and an older gentleman was actually wearing a panama jack type hat in the dining room!!!!

The worst recent example I can think of is the last time I had dinner at Irene's (probably November/December)...
Some slapdick had on shorts, a t-shirt - and flip flops.
Naturally, he was at the table next to me. Wanna guess if he was an obnoxious loudmouth?
