Makes me happy. It’s a scrappy joint doing what it does, without a thought toward decor, endless marketing, or the overly serious attitude so prevalent in so many corporate owned “local” food businesses these days. Plus, the $3.25 bahn mi have the best price to value ratio of any food item in NOLA. Buy 10, get one free!

We usually eat at Pho Bang when over that way, but I've eaten at DP countless times...on a previous menu printing the had bird's nest vermicelli with grilled pork, it was the best Viet dish I've ever had. Came as a lettuce wraps with all the accoutrements and fish sauce to dip, plate of flattened vermicelli and a plate of grilled pork.

My wife likes the Pho and I like the vermicelli better at Pho Bang though.

A stop for a bag of their baguettes from the bakery is a must.

You’re describing bahn hoi, which is a pretty common dish around S.E. LA Vietnamese restaurants. Tan Dinh, Pho Tau Bay and a bunch of other places offer it.

Their bread is so good you can just buy a few loaves and eat them plain.
