You won't see Link talk bad about Cantrell. Too much of the mayor's office money flows through the backroom of Cochon.

Restaurants would be in serious trouble even if government never ordered the shutdown. Many people are simply not going to get on a plane, stay in a hotel, or dine in a restaurant until they feel safe, which could be a long time. Even if only 10 or 20 % take that approach, that’s a hell of a hit.
If coronavirus went poof and disappeared today, there is the oil bust to consider. That started before corona, and it will continue for a good while. Many people with good paying jobs in petroleum and related or dependent businesses are losing jobs, and they won’t be dining out unless you count the taco they eat on break at their new job manning the drive thru window.
This could well be a worse oil bust than we saw in the late 80s, and that one was devastating. It wasn’t just restaurants closing, many of the banks and other related businesses failed. We’re focused on corona now, but the bust is at least as big a problem for Louisiana and Texas.

Please visit Gulf Shores AL, we are going to make up for 7 weeks of lost revenue in 3 weeks time. Everyone from every state is here spending money like it grows on trees. I pray no one gets sick but at the same time service industry folks have elevated immune systems do to our constant contact with everyone year round. We are also Serve Safe trained. All the extra precautions we have been practicing for years.

I was there last week and had a great time with the family. Only ate out twice, but it was a surprisingly enjoyable experience both times.

Thanks for sharing. Donald Link comes off as one of the most stand-up folks in our Louisiana food world.

He said “if you don’t have tourists coming in over the next few months 150 restaurants will close by August.”
And a question arises about the federal government's role and the fallout of bailing out companies that are destroyed by the fallout.
This is going to be devastating no matter what. Either we over inflate the US economy by pumping trillions more into saving businesses, or we watch thousands of businesses across the country go under and see people suffer.
Or we could have continued on as normal with a thriving economy and watched potentially a million people die from the illness.
All that said...frick China.
