I wasn't impressed by Domenica.
It was good, but I was expecting more.

Crust has to be thin and crispy for me.

It is crispy but not like a Red Baron or anything. I like to compare Ancora's crust to naan bread. It's the closest I've had to the wood-fire ovens used at the places in Italy I had pizza. Not too dense .. airy but with some substance .. nice crisp on the bottom + black spots, that's how you know a beautiful crust.

That is how I would describe the Domenica crust. I agree that Ancora may have the edge on pizza, but Domenica is the superior overall restaurant. Not fair to compare, but has to be said.
Gris, you should have told Alon that you know the "Brah" he would have hooked you up with the Matza!!

Loved my visit to Domenica about a year ago. Had the squid ink pasta. Very good.

I really like their chicken livers with the oxtail ragout and the stracchi pasta dish.
I've only been once and te oxtail ragout was my main dish. We had the back room with the wine cellar wall. Everyone passed their plates around (family/close friends, we didn't pay much attention to bumps on each others lips) and everything I tried was good-fantastic.

I wasn't expecting much and my meal was paid for.

This is one of my GFs and I go-to places in NOLA

I love the pizza and the salumi and formaggi plates (anyone know other places in New Orleans with salumi and formaggi up to par?). I usually get both of these when I go. Also, I've had the truffle risotto which I thought was good. When I go to New Orleans for work I usually stay across the street, so I frequent Domenica quite often.

A Mano was just listed, I second that. Also, Dante's chef is also highly skilled in Charcuterie. I'm not sure they have a regular plate but the guy can do it.
Side note: Keife and Co wine shop has an excellent man in charge of their cheese and salami section. For Christmas last year, we ordered some of their Pata Negra, some of the best I've ever had. They have plenty to choose from and are excellent guides.

Ancora's made in house salumi are slightly better than Domenicas.....Ancoras calabrese is fantastic, and the appetizer menu offers a variety plate, plus sells the stuff by the pound.

The duck liver pate' is off the chain. Actually everything on the charcuterie (sp?) menu is fantastic.

great rec. they have some really good offerings .. and are great about suggesting wines to go with cheese/salumi and vice versa.

It's a good thing I don't live near this restaurant. I'd probably go once a week.
I live a couple blocks away and go there at least once a week. Happy hour 3-6. Half off wine, beer and most cocktails.
We have tried almost every pizza and they are all amazing. It is the best deal in town. Hands down no one can touch it. Here's a tip: If you can't decide between two of the pizzas, you can get half on one side and half on the other!
The tagliatelle and the truffle risotto are two dishes we order all the time. Try the banana zupa as well.
