Food Network myth number 1

You also have to love how they just cut up some vegetables and meat, pour in chicken broth, simmer for a little bit and in 30 min you have gumbo

Don't believe I've ever seen gumbo cooked on Food Network.

Im from NLA and I would never put tomatoes in a gumbo. Also, chicken and seafood should never be mixed. A poultry gumbo should have a much darker roux IMO than seafood gumbo. Especially a duck gumbo which should have an almost Black roux.

sure I do sometimes and sometimes I don't.

IMO - If you like them use them

If folks don't want your gumbo because of tomatoes they can go to McDonalds and try their new McGumbo Sammich (limited time Value menu offer, not available in all areas)

Sorry - I just earned that they substitute Ketchup for tomatoes in the McGumbo Sammich

Rachel Ray did a Turkey Gumbo. My wife recorded it and asked me if I had ever seen gumbo cooked like that. I dare you to find that episode. It was her thanksgiving leftovers edition. You will punch yourself in the face.

I know that. The spelling was for effect. You're the only one who took the bait, though, Trout.

I don't think I've ever considered adding tomatoes to a gumbo.

It just seems sacreligious, and I'm from a very bland, very boring, Ozark baptist family.

I couldn't find the video, but I found the recipe: recipe

Notable additions:

1. the hated tomato sauce
2. brown sugar
3. cider vinegar

No roux: "Sprinkle the flour over the vegetables and stir a couple of minutes."

Buddy tonight told me he buys a zatarans mix and just dumps in a pot with water, adds his seafood and hocus locus, it's gumbo. I just smiled and changed the subject. He's an Aggies though.johnny football.
