what is this the difference between sno balls and sno cones? Always heard sno cones growing up. Bigger ice chunks?

I looked at the Sno Wizard trailers. They are a tad on the expensive side and don't come with the machines. The smallest is $25,237. The one I linked is perfect and made for snowballs and it is over 10k cheaper. Good idea though. I'll take a look at that instagram

I just got back from Bahama Bucks. Not going to lie, the ice was perfectly shaved. Very mushy. The only down side is that they didn't pour enough syrup. There was white ice in the cone part underneath the syrup. They didn't even give a straw. I got condensed milk on top and it wasn't like the kind back at home. It was very watery.
I would say they are the closest to Nola style, but they are inconveniently located.

Gotcha, didn't price one out I just thought they were set up nicely and had a little more headroom. I'm sure you will do well, try to get on with some local travel baseball and soccer tournaments, whenever one is around there's always a line.

A buddy of mine tried to open one about 10 years ago and it tanked. It might be different today with social media/online promo. Snowball stands are one of those things that a lot of people are faithful to, so it's hard getting customers to try a new one. I suggest a gimmick.
ETA: Totally missed that you're in DFW. Yeah, you'll do well I bet. Good luck.

My parents used to have a Sno Ball stand in Luling when I was a kid. My Aunt had one on Barataria Boulevard in Marrero as well. This was back in the 70's and 80's. She taught my Dad everything needed to run a Sno Ball stand. First thing was that you had to have a Sno Wizard machine. I remember that we tried to make our own ice in a deep freezer using plastic bread boxes. They came out the perfect size for the machine but the ice just wasn't the same as the ice that you get from an ice house. Get your ice from an ice house. We made our own syrup as well. Syrup needs to be plentiful. Fill cup halfway with ice then pour syrup. Fill cup to the top with ice and add more syrup. Then make your cone and add syrup on top of that. Get a soft serve ice cream machine as well. Then you can sell not only ice cream but sundaes and banana splits. We used to sell nachos as well. Made a killing but now I have Diabetes.

Is the one on Barataria the Cold Spot? I love that snowball stand.

That is what I am picturing as well. Very lofty goal would be to get enough sales to be able to get into the Texas State Fair

There's a snowball stand on Burbank near Bluebonnet that seems always packed. Not sure why that particular spot is so much busier than all the other ones around BR.
Best shave ice I ever had was Ululani in Maui.

I used to work at a couple of them duri g the summer when I was younger. Definitely look into getting a soft serve machine as well and sell stuffed sno balls. Bottom half of cup with ice and syrup. Fill cup up near the top with ice cream then top it off with more ice and syrup. You can also do malts and stuff.

We both defined sno-balls earlier and this was the one thing missing. I jogged my memory a bit and remember the syrup being the thing missing. The location is bad. Get into social media especially with the crowd in DFW. It should work out if you hit the right spots. Also as someone else said above....100% try to go to these sport tournaments. Have you thought of a name yet? I will have to swing by when I fly back.

No. It was Mary's Sno Balls. It was on Barataria past Lapalco going toward the Lafitte Highway on the left in front of a small family owned grocery store. Aunt Mary has been dead for over 20 years so not open any more.

I haven't thought of a name yet. I definitely will include "New Orleans Style Snowballs" somewhere on there. Maybe "my first name's New Orleans Style Snowballs." If I'm going to do it I would want to do it right. May have some friends in marketing and graphic design come up with something catchy.

I don't own one but know a girl who did this in NYC. If you want to serve authentic snowballs buy a sno biz machine.

I think we know the same girl, she's in New Orleans now
Imperial Woodpecker? Even if not, it's my favorite in New Orleans. She has soft serve new this summer.
OP, figure out your expenses and margins to think about how many you need to serve over the day to make it worthwhile. With something mobile like this you sound like you'll be more hands on which is going to be way different than a fixed location staffed by high school kids for summer jobs. Ice might be a pain in the butt, do you store it at home or have to get it everyday? How far and how often do you have to drive to do that? Consider all the burdens on yourself and if all the work is worth the gain.

If you will be all over DFW then 100% put "New Orleans" style snowballs or scratch style. It IS new orleans snowballs!

If you weren't going to do it right....then why do it at all?

See if you could set do ups at summer camps, vacation bible schools or similar type things. I recall 30 years ago when I was at the YMCA for summer camp that twice a week a mobile stand would swing buy and we would buy them. There were at least 60-70 kids plus all the counselors and staff got them.

I am definitely too late to the game for this summer. I would need to do a lot of research and practice before I go all out. I plan on being ready for next summer.

I agree that would be awesome if I didn't have a full time job. I may have to find something new or work part time in the summer. We have time.
