So I finally had the Darrell's special. It was an okay sandwich, IMO, but nothing spectacular and certainly cannot compete with the best of N.O.'s poboys.

First off, the bread was simply an unremarkable roll. No Leidenheimer's here. Second, the fillings. While fine, it was pretty much just your basic cold cuts and cheese. Third, the gravy, while tasty when mixed with that jalapeno mayo, was a bit too thick and had the look/taste of a jarred roast beef gravy.

Again, a good sandwich but IMO does not deserve to be mentioned with the best of Louisiana poboys.

Fire away.

You mean, you still take people's restaurant advice on this board?

I'll take some cooking advice, and enjoy some beer/scotch/wine suggestions, but I have pretty much given up on taking restaurant advice.

It's not even close to the roast beef/meat poboy I've ever had. It's hard to classify it as strictly a roast beef poboy. But in that genre, Parkway blows the Darrell's Special away. Ditto the debris poboy from Mother's. My $0.02.

Yeah, they seem to get a bum rap as a tourist trap, but how many other places bake their own hams and slow roast all their own roast beef, for use on poboys, all made to order?

They may be rather pricy, and a little skimpy these days, but I'd put their ingredients up against any other place around.

Plus, I actually prefer cabbage to lettuce and tomato on some poboys.

I had the Darrel's Special tonight and I thought it was great... I loved the bread, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Jalapeno mayo and gravy running down my arms. You sure don't need alot of time reading their menu do you?

I had the special this past Thursday, was a little upset the cheese wasn't melted but it didn't stop me from enjoying its awesomeness.

I haven't seen their menu in years, it's either the special or shrimp every time for me. I only know one guy who got something other than those two.

I think they had like 5 sandwiches on there.. No fries, no nothing else to choose from, just chips. It was good, I used about 12 napkins.
