I've become a huge fan of dark rum. My buddy introduced me to Cruzan Dark Aged Rum and I can't stop drinking it.

My go to drink this summer: Dark & Stormy. I used Cruzan Dark Aged Rum (1/2) + Buffalo Rock Ginger Ale (1/2). So damn good.

I'm also addicted to Bushwackers.

What are some other good dark rums and drinks?

I drink rum 80% of the time if I'm drinking, and this one blows all others out of the water, IMO. It's almost $40, but so good.

You drink it on the rocks or mix it?

Dark and stormy is my favorite cocktail. Add some fresh squeezed limes next time you try it.

Dark and Stormy is great. Squeeze a bit of lime in it as well.

You should also try mixing ginger ale, bourbon and a few drops of bitters. I don't recall the name of this drink, but it's my go to currently. I do about 1/3 buffalo trace and 2/3 ginger ale (fever tree brand) and a couple dashes of bitters. Killer stuff.

I have not heard of Buffalo Rock GA. Where do you get this? I would like to try it

You're mixing a $40 bottle of liquor? Once you're into the $30+ price point, you should be drinking sippers. It's a waste of money to mix expensive sippers with anything. I'm sure it tastes great though.

You're right, of course. Just personal preference.

MDS, that drink is generally just called a Buck. Spirit, bitters, and ginger ale.

Agreed, as my response was entirely good natured.

Developed this one on vacation in Myrtle Beach after returning from the DR. It utilizes an affordable Dominican aged rum but was created in MB hence the name.

Crepe Myrtle
3oz Ron Barcelo Añejo
1 1/2oz Aperol
3/4oz sour mix
(Sauza Margarita Mix works best)
1/2oz fresh squeezed oj
1/2oz fresh squeezed lime juice

Combine all ingredients in a shaker with ice. Shake to blend & pour over ice in rocks glass.

Garnish with Meyer's rum float.

If you're gonna use fresh squeeze lime juice, why on earth would you used bottled sour mix? Just replace your sour and lime juice above with an ounce of lime juice and maybe a 1/4-1/2 oz of lemon juice and some simple syrup

The rum old fashion at Cure is one of the better twists on a classic. Easy to replicate at home with good aged rum.

Could not agree more that Zaya is the best. It's $30 a bottle at most places in Baton Rouge.

Anything is doable but I associate Captain with more of a spiced flavor. What you want in a dark and stormy is a nice interplay from the molasses sweetness of a dark rum (like Gosling's) and the spice and effervescence of a great Ginger Beer. Spice and spice wont work as well.
