The concept wasn't what killed them. It was the lack of atmosphere and location, which kind of go together. I liked this place, but it was a pain in the air to get there and nothing else around it.
I really wish another beer bar with a decent selection would start serving 4 oz pours. I like being able to try new stuff for $2-3, so if I dont like it, it doesn't matter.

Agreed, maybe a beer flight of a certain category would be nice as well. Seems like a good way to get more people to try different stuff.

maybe that was the pelican house?
I was thinking of the Pelican House that closed, not the Cove, my mistake.

The layout was absolutely horrendous. I went for trivia one time, and for how large that place was, there was maybe 5 or 6 tables. If they changed the layout to seat more people with groups instead of long bars only they may have done better. I did enjoy the beer selection.

Went once. Never returned.

Location maybe...
Went last night, they have everything priced really well, I mean 3 beers cost me 14 bucks before tip was included. I've always tried to support them and enjoyed going to try different stuff, it is going to suck when they close on Saturday. No one where can you try the variety they offered nor if I'm sure anywhere else in BR will get the rare releases like they did.

sad, easily has the best selection of brews on draft in BR (chimes is mediocre AF)

I keep seeing atomsphere listed Place has tons of TVs, comfortable seating & the music isn't blaring.
I agree the layout could be better, but what exactly do you want?
I'd take a place like that over the garbage bars in downtown Baton Rouge any day of the week. Or Olive or Twist's fake yuppie hipster nonsense.
Bulldog does it great, but they are more of bar than a craft beer bar, imo.

quote:Bulldog never has anything unique, plus usually, the stuff I want is out. They use to keep their board updated with new beer but here lately every time I walk in they have only 2-3 beers listed in chalk. The best place to sit outside and enjoy a beer outside of New Orleans but honestly the beer is hit or miss sometimes.

Won't be long people will be complaining about not having a quality tap room in BR, one that offers many different unique taps and no BMC items.
Corporate had that but the "environment" didn't fit I guess, was one of the best bars to go and try new things and they always got what was available. Then they received several specialty kegs and other beers such as Cantillon other BR bars will not see.

Last time I went to the Bulldog in BR they had nothing unique on tap. With the exception of the $30 sours I could go buy everything they had at Rouses for 1/4 of the price they charge. To top it off they quit letting dogs stay inside. So we sat outside and I drank a $7 paradise park then left. No plans of going back there.

The girl told us it’s always been the rule since they serve food they just never enforced it. She said in the last month management has started making them enforce it.

Damn that sucks we tend to sit inside with our dogs when the patio area is full or if it is blazing hot outside and no shade.

Name a location in BR that fits these two qualifications.

It’s no wonder why Uncle Earl’s, Ivar’s and Merchant are so popular with the post college crowd in BR. Honestly, with the declining popularity of Third St, I’m not sure who all is going anywhere aside from Perkins overpass area. Maybe Radio Bar gets a decent crowd? BR has always had a spread out and fickle going out scene.

Here's to hoping Tom opens up the front room as the taproom again. Though it'll suck to lose the variety since there's just not enough room for the number of taps.

Your dogs were never allowed inside. Keep them outside where they belong
Fwiw, theyve been very relaxed with that rule as of late
