going to build this table out of cypress but instead of an open space below the non-grill side I'm going to put three sides and a fold down door to store charcoal and other accessories.
you may need more space than that, depending on whether you go accessory nuts or not. 20lb charcoal itself takes a lot of space. i assume you'll have the platesetter for indirect cooking, maybe a electric starter, drip pan, grill tools, etc. just a heads up, i am using an outdoor storage chest plus a couple of kitchen drawers and still my cup runneth over.

Touche. I was planning on only keeping the stuff that i would use every time (starter, grate lifter, ash tool) outside. I have a spot in my back kitchen pantry where the charcoal will fit so i can put that there. The space would be approx 20W x 20D x 12H. That should come close to handling all the non-charcoal storage needs, right?

i dunno: pizza stone, rib rack, chicken/turkey thingies, gotta have a remote thermo...man, i over did it.
if you don't get a remote thermometer you're missing one of the great benefits of the ceramic: water retention and not having to open it up. just an aside.

we're going to get a granite remnant cut to fit on the table next to the egg. it gets dirty there, and granite is so easy to clean.
i second the remote thermometer. its a must have! the mr is going to buy some sort of fan that he can control from his phone too
i'll believe it when i see it.
how are the grill dome prices compared to the egg?

i don't know the exact price of the BGE but i remember them being comparable. For $850 (that's for everything, no tax or shipping needed).
I'm getting:
Large Red Grill Dome
Ash Tool
Thermometer (not remote, the one that sticks in the front)
58x30 cover
Metal Top
Grate Lifter
For comparison:
BGE $749+tax (someone verify this, i found this online but can't confirm)
I think it comes with the daisy top and thermometer so I'd also have to buy the ash tool, grate lifter, and cover which would be another $85.

.....still have to suggest the Primo Oval, XL or the Jr. It might cost a few hundy more upfront, but the upside with capacity, firebox divider, and grate configuration are hard to beat. Saw the Jr on Amazon for $692 delivered.

The primo jr is listed as 210 in^2 grill area. The grill dome and bge are both 254.

I am sure they are still open, usually only one lady there. Right near North Sherwood and Choctaw.
small warehouse stocked with nothing but cypress.
Prices were unbelievable for cypress.
Bout to build me some new shutters for the house, I hope they have not closed.

There was an answering machine. So I assume they're still open.

That may be with single layer grates, but if you get the extended cooking racks it would likely add another 65% of surface area. I bought the XL with the mindset of having enough space to cook whatever quantity of food needed, but probably 90% of the cooks the Jr would be plenty and use less lump. It might be worth your while to call the Primo company in Norcross, GA to ask about the cooking area with and without the extended grates for clarification.
The Grill Dome looks like a nice unit, hell they are all good.
I have used the Primo for 5-years with no problem. I cracked the internal fire box when it was at high heat when the grate slipped out of the grate holder and dropped the grate on an angle on the front edge of the box (too much beer). Primo replaced it with no questions asked and the new one is still sitting in the garage while I have continued to use the cracked one with no problems for 2.5 years.

I would suggest taking a look at the Kamado Joe. Comes fully assembled you can get it in Red, Black or puple and gold. You can get the red or the black one with SS bands and hinges. Comes with the dome thermometer, ash tool. SS banded units for about $750. If you are in BR check them out at Tramonte's. They are the same size at the Lg Egg and the Grill dome

I have. I've looked at all of them. I like the Grill Dome the most.

Right, but you can also do the same thing with the Grill Dome, BGE, KJ...

I am into my 8th year with my BGE and to this day it is the best birthday gift I have ever received. I gave away my gas grill about 3 months after getting it.

OK, I've got one better for ya...forget ceramic!! Go with the Bubba Keg!!! I bought one last year and now I have 2 of them and it's half the price of the EGG. The amount of fuel (lump charcoal) that is used is sick. I can smoke a whole brisket or a couple of pork shoulders on a handful of charcoal and a few pieces of wood for 12 hours. It's almost like having an oven that smokes, once you get the temp set and know how to work it...you just "set it and forget it" LOL

Rather that than buy one made in China
