The thread title is “Char-broil Big Easy Oil less turkey fryer appreciation” yet you come in here to argue that smokers produce a better product. I might understand this if the thread title was “Smokers versus Char-Broil Big Easy”, but it’s not.
If you are too fricking stupid to understand the difference, then may God help you.

My son cooked a 20lb turkey at thanksgiving in it this year. You can make it fit in the basket. I prefer big easy turkey to any other kind.
I have also done whole chicken, ribs, and roasts. Love everything I’ve cooked in it.

Just get a smoker and skip this fake "oil less fryer" nonsense. Plenty of electric, pellet, and propane smokers if you want ease of use of this.
I have a smoker, but borrow my buddy's char broil big easy. I like the big easy better.

These things taste nothing like an actual fried turkey.
So you've never had one. Got it. Either that, or you completely failed at cooking a turkey on it. I cooked a turkey sunday. Brined it for 2 days. Patted dry. Coated with olive oil and salt and pepper, then injected with Zat's Creole Butter. All that was left of the turkey after our Christmas Lunch with teh in-laws was 1 turkey leg. Moist, Tender, and extremely juicy. But the best part, was the skin. I don't think there was any skin left by the time we started carving. Everyone kept picking at it and eating it.

I plan on borrowing my brothers to cook a turkey Christmas day. What size turkey would you guys recommend?
I cooked an 18.5 lb. turkey Sunday. Get some string and tie the wings and the legs so they don't get caught on the basket. And invert the turkey, so the legs/wings don't get caught. Leg side down.

So you are saying it's easier than an electric/propane/pellet smokers?
They are all about the same difficulty, what's that catch line from the rotisserie as seen on tv, set it and forget it.
Yes. You literally just hook up propane to it and turn it on. Clean up is pretty easy because the basket and inner container come out and you can just hose it off. When dealing with a smoker (depending on the type) you have a lot more cleanup up to deal with. You also have to build your fire/smoke prior to setting the turkey in the smoker. I don't know your hang up with this fryer, but it sounds like you've never used one and are just bitching to bitch.

My problem with it is you can get the same taste or better and have a product that does a lot more with the other option
A smoker is not an oil-less fryer. Personally, i find smoked turkeys to be dryer than the char broil. I smoked turkeys on an egg and an electric smoker (not pellet) and it's just not as juicy

and they don't try to compare themselves to a completely separate style/taste of turkey.
It's an "oil-less" turkey fryer. Do you have a problem with the turkey, or just the marketing?

I cook wings on this thing. Amazing.
Get the three shelf accessory and cook slow for about 2 hours.

You can also get a 9” spring form pan and place it in the bottom of the kettle. This allows you to use a vertical turkey roaster instead of the basket. The bottom of the vertical roaster needs to be greater than 9” circumference to sit on top of the spring form pan.
ETA: You are going to have to change the drip pan if you do a jumbo turkey.

Good post. They are incredibly fuel efficient as well. Fantastic poultry cooker. It’s not a fryer, but yields great results.

So, because the thread title says appreciation, we can't give negative opinions on it? Yeah, that's how this board works.

Had several from this, it's not a fried bird. You may like it better, doesn't mean other people like it as much.

So you haven't used an electric or propane smoker. No fire/smoke to build, hell electric is a hell of a lot easier than this or a propane smoker, as is a pellet smoker. Butterball electric version of this is a good example of this, plug the damn thing into the wall and put a bird in, but that one is even worse than the char-broil version.

Smoked turkeys vs this style has a lot of differences like cooking temps etc, but you could get a similar product to this on a lot of smokers by altering temps, not using smoke production, etc.

Marketing mainly, as said by Rip above, it's not a fryer. I don't get why it is billed as a replacement for it. It can make a good turkey, just not what it is claiming to replace.

I think they are good, but no one I know has ever said it was better than one dropped into hot peanut oil.
