I'm generally not a big salmon fan but the Mrs. is. She picked up some marinated cedar plank salmon from Whole Foods and I'm thinking I may like it better smoked. She also thinks this could be interesting. Do any of you have experience cooking cedar plank salmon in an electric smoker? Tips and advice are appreciated.

I always get the plank hot enough to smoke so that cedar flavor is imparted to the fish....will the smoker get the plank hot enough?....and is the salmon atlantic salmon or pacific northwest such as Coho or sockeye?

It was Atlantic salmon but we had something come up so have to hit the pause button on this one. Thanks for the post, though. I'll report back.

If it's the way I'm picturing it I don't think that would work. The heating element is covered on the bottom and won't get the plank hot enough.

You'd probably be better breaking up the plank and putting it in the wood chip box.

I love the stuff on the grill. A few minutes meat side down until it releases, then finish skin side down. Serve with yogurt/capers/lemon sauce.

The Washington Post did a blind taste test with a bunch of chefs and food writers a few years ago, and to their great surprise they overwhelmingly preferred the farm raised cheap arse Atlantic salmon.

The judgments were definitive, and surprising. Farmed salmon beat wild salmon, hands down. The overall winner was the Costco frozen Atlantic salmon (Norwegian), added to the tasting late in the game — to provide a counterpoint to all that lovely fresh fish, we thought.
