Wet and soggy fried catfish is one thing I don't ever want to eat.

Everyone who is hating on a "new" recipe based on some pictures and just the ingredients. I think that is obviously not enough basis to dispel the recipe. How do you think new recipes come about?

I agree with this a hundred percent and I would eat dinner at his house any day of the week.

When I open up a cookbook and I'm skimming through recipes, I can generally tell if the dish would be good to me based on knowing what's in it.

At a restaurant, you read the descriptions until you choose one that sounds appealing. There are rare times you might be pleasantly surprised, but knowing the ingredients generally is a good way of knowing if you'll like something.

Now.. if you disliked a certain ingredient when you were a kid and now refuse to try it prepared another way, that's dumb. Or if you dislike something like mayo and refuse to try anything with mayo (like homemade ranch.. or dips.. or casseroles), that's dumb. I'd try this soup if it was served to me because I'm not rude and mannerless, but I don't think it's that far off to know I wouldn't be a fan.

Deff agree with this. I don't think he started as a troll, but I think he's turned into one.

His first few picture threads were good if I recall.

LL, I think you are missing my point. If you look at the ingredients and say that you wouldn't like it then that is one thing. However, I would willing to bet that if you listed the ingredients out one by one then the majority of people in here would like them all individually. They are simply saying it is dumb b/c it is different.

My thoughts exactly. He's a troll now, I have no doubt that wasn't his original tent.

Eta: very nice looking old fella, I'd share a hot dog at SAMs with him any day.

Exactly. He knows that there's a bastion of folks here that will cry like babies when their beloved way of cooking their "home-grown" dishes are bastardized. Good for him. He likes it. Doesn't mean you have to. Nevermind the fact that he posts more how-to threads than most of you "experts" have ever even dared. Looking right at you, R2R.

But I do like corn.. and I am starting to like potatoes a good bit.. and I like fried catfish.. and whatever else.

I just know I wouldn't like them together because I don't like those kinds of soups.

I don't like vegetable soup much, but I adore vegetables.

Spot on, I hate to say it because I respect this board a lot but there is way too much bull shite and way too many hypocrites. People here all claim to be experts but give some real close-minded and very stupid opinions. Obviously, I am not speaking about everyone but this board is super snooty. I am a foodie myself, but I just have a MUCH different take on things than everyone else. Its like if you all walked into an old ladies house in the middle of nowhere you would diss her recipes if you had never heard of them. IMO nothing could be more stupid and you could potentially miss out on some really good eats by being so biased.

To be fair, that's the haters' gripe.

Just like you aren't supposed to post every thought that comes into your head on the OT, it's not the norm to post every meal you cook on the F&D Board.

The pictures entertain me, and I don't mind his threads anymore. But I can see why people don't want an entire thread devoted to every meal the guy cooks.

Many people post what they've cooked in the WFDT every night. Some of it looks incredible. They recognize that there doesn't need to be a thread every time they cook. And when they want to discuss whatever they cooked, THEN they start a thread.

I hear ya. I do look at recipes and decide whether I would like them before trying them. I would certainly like this dish and I know that I would. If you wouldn't then that is totally cool but I know for a fact that all the people in this thread claiming that are just being snooty.
