Headed to Florida with the family. Driving to Mobile, AL tomorrow evening and stopping for the night. Have small kids with us but looking for a decent place to eat along the way. I'm familiar with most of the options in Baton Rouge but is there anything else of interest not too far off the route?

Spirits in Alexandria has a nice atmosphere and beer selection. The food is decent.

How are you getting to BR? Via Opelousas/Lafayette? I’m not as familiar with it but I’m sure there are tons of options.

Swinging through New Roads? They have Satterfields, Hot Tails, Morel’s, and Mama’s.

Which part of that journey will you be at dinner time?

I should be around BR by 6:00 PM tomorrow. Probably wouldn't want to eat any earlier than that. So from 6:00 pm on, anywhere along the I-12/1-10 route.

Not your mama tavern

In Livonia. Get there at 5:45 relax and let BTR traffic clear out.

Go I-12 then 55 south and hit Middendorf's. Then continue down 55 to I-10.

There's the new Middendorf's in Slidell, but I don't know how far off the beaten path it is. Might be a little late for the youngsters by the time you get there considering BR traffic.

I would take the old bridge into BR and stay on Airline until you hit I-12. I find it to be a much better option traffic wise. Lots of lights, but it moves.

When you get to Port Barre, hang a right and cruise on down to Arnaudville and give Little Big Cup a try. Great food, good selection and if the weather is still on the "cool" side, set outside on lower deck on the bayou.

makes sense. I know Middendorf's gets a lot of hate here. But, it would fit the OP's agenda.
