E&Ls BBQ
It’s a daytime spot.
Great BBQ
Hood AF
I go every time I’m in Jackson.
Oh also, they’re gonna ask if you want sauce on fries, you do.

Lou's Full-Serv is a local gem that's really underrated and often overlooked
LINK
Also on the casual side is Saltine which is usually a fun atmosphere with good beer, oysters, etc
For more formal fare I recommend CAET, Koestler Prime, The Manship and Ely's
I don't think you can go wrong with any of those

Walkers drive thru in fondren is my favorite, Shapleys for steaks (they will cut you a filet at any size you want), surin if you like Thai food, spice avenue if you like Indian food, local 463 (same owners as walkers so it’s good), char, mama hamil’s if you want death by heart disease
Oh yea lou’s and barrelhouse are pretty good too.

shapleys is perhaps one of the worst “nice” steakhouses my wife and I have ever visited. We had a super time because we laughed so hard at the awful service and terrible food. The best part of the meal was leaving to eat dessert elsewhere

Odd. I’ve had two good meals there and I’ve been to many fine steakhouses around this great country. I liked it better than Tico’s which is in Jackson as well

Grew up in Jackson and had many meals at the Green Derby as a kid. Also ate at Dennerys and the chicken place that looked like a big barn near the zoo.

My family's idea of a big night out was Piccason/Morrisilly
Think I went to Dennery's once.
Remember Lefleur's? It was next to an upscale toy store I always wanted to go to but never did...
Remember "Fisherman's Wharf" or something like that on Hwy 80? Never went there, but I remember the big fish sign. Never went to Creshale's either -- still open?
Was in downtown Jxn a few years ago. Half the buildings on Capitol St are boarded up... Elite Cafe and Martin's (never went to either) were still open. I think Primo's closed though.

Wish Meridian Dog would come back. Love his stories about old Jackson.

Elite closed a couple weeks ago, unfortunately

The chicken place was early to mid 70s. Went to Lafleurs and the old Primos a bunch. I've been to the new Primos on Lakeland a couple of times in the last 10 years. Don't know if it is still there, but I like those brownies a lot. Old Tyme deli is the place I miss the most. The bread was incredible.
Shout out to the old Beer Barn on Lakeland. Went through the drive thru when I was 14, with a couple of 15 year olds and all got a 32 oz beer. The food old days.

You have some great recommendations. I'm glad no one suggested CS's. Very overated. Only considered good by people not from Jackson. Like Ward's but not as good.
