Cajun Plate Lunch/Dinner Between New Orleans and Venice

Driving from the FL Panhandle to Venice Tuesday afternoon. Where are some good spots I could stop and get a good plate dinner at a gas station hole in the wall type spot? Or if I’m in between meal times somewhere I might be able to fill a cooler with sausage or boudin

Haven’t planned the route yet. Quick Google map from the address in Venice my boss sent me shows I-10 all the way to New Orleans then 23 to Venice. I’m all ears for a better route, time not much if an issue if it’s less than an hour detour

That’s the correct route. The BBQ joint in Belle Chase is well respected.

There is not much to eat worth a damn between New Orleans and Venice. The BBQ at LA 23 is good, but they run out early and its not what you're looking for.
I'd plan on eating on the westbank in New Orleans. Salvo's is good for boiled and fried seafood. It's in Belle Chasse just as you leave New Orleans. If you want plate lunch type food, try Cafe 615 (Da Wabbit). That would be my pick. It's just off the expressway in Gretna on the westbank of New Orleans. It is also very nearby an Academy Sports for you to grab those last minute items you may want.
For ice chest stuffers, stop at the Gourmet Butcher Block on Belle Chasse Hwy.

Lil' Lee's in Jesuit Bend. Also called the Fil-a-Sack. Their chicken and waffles are the best. Red beans and/or white beans are also delish.

Everything about this place looks good, varied menu, nice website, think I'll drive down to Jesuit Bend.
