Cajun Grocer selling “Louisiana” crawfish?

I ordered crawfish tails from them. The package is from Kouncie’s with a Des Allemands address with Louisiana crawfish written on it. It does not have the certified Cajun logo on the packaging. Did I just buy Chinese crawfish? If so, f*%k Cajun Grocer. I’m never buying from them again.

It is required by law to say where it hails from on the packaging.”A product of _______” should be on there somewhere.

It has product of Louisiana written on it. It does not have the certified Cajun product logo on it. I always have understood that if it didn’t have that logo, it was Chinese crawfish processed at a Louisiana facility. That way it could still be called “Louisiana Crawfish” and a product of Louisiana.

You ever consider picking up the phone and calling them?

Fixed it

The quote you provided just says that in order for it to have the Certified Cajun label, it has to be a product with at least 50% of its contents made in LA.
From that link, it seems like a company selling crawfish has to apply (and pay a small application fee) in order to get that label. Yes, it might be advantageous to have the Certified Louisiana/Certified Cajun label, but it doesn't appear that ALL products produced in Louisiana HAVE to have it. What if the company just doesn't want to apply for it, knowing that they are required anyway to print the country of origin and whether it was farm or wild raised on the package?

$55 seems like a small price to pay to prove you are selling Louisiana crawfish. If two packages of crawfish are sitting side by side at the grocery store with one having the logo the other not, I’m buying the one with logo. I want Louisiana crawfish, not some shite from China with god knows what chemicals, antibiotics, etc.

The certified cajun logo is just marketing stuff. It’s not on all sorts of things legitimately produced in LA....maybe the owner/producer doesn’t think of itself as cajun? Ex a Vietnamese or Hispanic owned business in south LA may have no interest in “cajun” labeling.
That silly logo is no guarantee that the crawfish originated in LA.

You’re pretty damn confrontational for someone asking for help on a message board.

That logo don't mean shite, especially to anyone in Louisiana. Dozens of companies have taken that logo and altered it to mislead the consumers who don't know any better into thinking their product is legit.
Remember that "Gumbo Brick" con artist from Shark Tank? She had the logo on it but it said "certified CREOLE" instead.
To be honest, you should be able to open it and tell the difference just by looking at the meat. You should DEFINITELY be able to tell once you taste them. If they're from China, it should say China on the pack SOMEWHERE, regardless of how small orhidden it is.

it'll say china on it somewhere if it's chinese. a lot of times the package has a coonass name of sorts and it'll say "produced in china". don't fall for the name on the package. look for the word "china" somewhere on the pack.
