Go to Brigsten's and order the seafood platter. One of the better things I've had. Pecan pie is also incredible for dessert.
Brigtsen's Seafood Platter (aka the "Shell Beach Diet")
~Grilled Drum Fish with Shrimp & Jalapeño Lime Sauce
~Shrimp Cornbread with Jalapeño Smoked Corn Butter
~Baked Oyster LeRuth with Shrimp & Crabmeat
~Baked Oyster Rockefeller
~Shrimp & Napa Cabbage Cole Slaw with Roasted Jalepeño Dressing
~Sea Scallop with Asiago Cheese Grits & Fire-Roasted Vegetable Salsa

Frank Brigtsen posted a picture of the current seafood platter this morning. I always enjoy it, though I can't eat it all. Have to save room for some bites of the pecan pie.

That's not what I had in mind, but man that looks good.

Well you asked why all the downvotes were happening, so I told you.

1)youre a regular and made a thread asking where to eat in nola thats not a steakhouse. come on you know all the usual suggestions.
2)you keep saying 'last meal' like youre going to the electric chair
3)youre you

If you can get in to Shaya I would do that.
Square Root is extremely high concept, molecular gastronomy tasting menu type of deal.

Any more hints as to what you have in mind?

I just meant I didn't really have a seafood platter in my thoughts when I was thinking over places to go. But that pic got my attention.

I can't imagine I'm the only person that sometimes gets into ruts when trying to decide where to eat. Sometimes I just need to see someone else mention a place to think to try it.

Fair enough I suppose. Once in the title and once in the body didn't seem too excessive, and not really sure how else to describe it

At first I assumed this, but honestly that doesn't really happen to me. At least not at the beginning of a thread

I think he's more looking for a high end, blowout type of meal. Toups is good but I think he's looking more for:
Square Root
August
R'evolution
Gautreau's
etc etc. Those type of places

I don't really think of it as a seafood platter because it's not the typical fried platter. I like it because of all the different samplers of seafoods to taste. There's usually an oyster, shrimp, fish and scallop offerning. During crawfish season, the cornbread which is sort of like spoonbread is crawfish rather than shrimp. There's generally crabmeat and probably more of it during crab season. He's been posting some nice pictures lately. We really enjoyed our meals there this past Spring. The pecan pie dessert is so good it brings tears to my eyes.

Thanks to Dave Worth and Gris Gris. We decided on Brigsten's after GG posted the pic. Absolutely perfect for what we wanted. Great atmosphere, excellent service, food and drinks were all top notch.
Along with the platter, we started with the butternut shrimp bisque and the BBQ shrimp with fried grit cake app. Followed that up with the seafood platter. For dessert, we did the pecan pie and cafe au lait crème brûlée.
For drinks, I had a sazerac and a mint julep. They made a non alcoholic fruit drink for my wife that they served in a martini glass. Very nice touch.
All that for just over $100 before tip. I can't recommend Brigsten's highly enough.

Glad you enjoyed the experience and particularly your wife. I've always enjoyed Brigtsen's. The platter is fun to get and plenty of food. I find it to be a welcoming restaurant and a good place for a celebration.
