Broussard folks, what happened to Hook & Boil?

When this place opened, it was popular and in our heavy rotation. It was consistent for a couple of years, then started to decline quickly. We quit going about a year ago and I noticed today that it is closed and changing to "Trapp's"
Anyone know what happened to cause the decline? Did management or ownership change?

I think the owner got into some tax issues. I was never impressed.

Yeah, it was never awesome, but imo, it was better than LT's for a while.

I can’t find the article... But that place has been dead to me and apparently several others ever since the owner signed a letter with other restaurants basically shitting On recreational fishing to fully support commercial fishing instead.

Not saying this did him in, but it definitely didn’t help his situation.

pretty sure the owner got into a bad debt situation. Think he bought the Station downtown and that deal went south. Those problems impacted H&B.
There is a new sign outside says "Trapps" opening soon. They were doing yard work outside this morning. First activity I've seen there in a while. Food was OK, never great.
Shadetree all day, every day FTW

I had forgotten they had bought the Filling Station and were planning to open another Hook & Boil there. They were working on remodeling it for a bit, then slowed/stopped, then they talked about selling crawfish out of catering trailer at the location, that never happened, and work stopped a short while later.
The building was later seized and put up for auction.

Shade tree is great, but I need a little A/C on days like today.

I actually know this part of the story. Downtown has an ordinance that you cannot put shellfish shells in to the trash or dumpsters anywhere downtown. H&B tried to apply for an exemption. They were denied. THat didn't help. I also heard there were some issues getting permits to reno the Filling station.

They basically didn't change the outside except for the planters. H&B wanted to put a deck up top and expand the patio out toward the parking lot.

It was very average other than their boiled shrimp which I actually think were the best I’ve had. Went there once every couple weeks just for that. Yeah what everyone said earlier in thread. Got in debt. Failed downtown venture. Think the building had espsitis (spelling) and they couldn’t do what they wanted. (Not completely sure on all that) they had to get it up to some code that filling station was grandfathered into or
Some shite like that.
