Broken Egg's New Hours: WTF ??

i see that the broken egg on george o'neal has drastically changed its hours .. it is no longer open on mondays and tuesdays and is only open from 8 to 2 wednesday thru sunday ... i used to eat breakfast there at least three times a week, but 8AM is too late for me now ... the place is almost always jam packed which makes the decision a mystery to me ... i am assuming that the jefferson highway location is starting to bite into their bottom line and manpower .. i have no idea how that location is doing but was kind of stunned when they bought that building ..

Damn I did not know that. We usually go on Sunday.

do you know how much the rent is on o'neal?
ETA: i guess the food board needs some action.

the george o'neal location seems to be doing just fine .. parking lot's always packed .. you have the highest concentration of households with a median income of over $75,000/year in the 70816 and 70817 zip codes ..

and the one on old hammond just adjusted their hours, tue-sat from 8 am to 9 pm and sun- mon 8 am to 2 pm i thought it was very wierd

i wish o'neal would have those hours.

8am makes NO sense at all. Very, very stupid decision.
Either open at about 6am to capitalize on the breakfast crowd, or don't open until about 10:30 and save some labor costs. The 8am-10:30 slot can't possibly pay for itself in terms of the business it brings in.

your post makes no sense .. business has been just fine at this location .. like i said earlier, i eat there three to four days a week ... i usually go in just after 7 and the place has PLENTY of business .. on saturday and sunday mornings you have to wait 30 minutes to get a table .. then all of a sudden, BOOM, the hours change ... i was referring to your previous post where you questioned their decision to put a location out here in southeast baton rouge ... you made it sound like they had put one on harding blvd. or something ... look at the marketing statistics for the city of baton rouge, look at DPW traffic counts for coursey blvd., jones creek, o'neal .. etc. ... this isn't exactly the boon docks out here ...
i was and am still questioning why a successful restaurant is adjusting its hours to the suicide hours it is ...

The Old Hammond store will be open for dinner? You're sure?

Wonder what brought THAT on!

Here is the information if you are interested. My name is Mark Dixon. My wife and I own the Broken Egg Cafe in Mandeville, and the two Another Broken Egg Cafe locations in Baton Rouge.
We are closing on Monday and Tuesday at the Oneal Lane location because of a lack of sales on those two days. In fact, we rarely get very full Monday - Friday. Most of the business we enjoy and appreciate is done on Saturday and Sunday. And we want to thank those guest that have been coming during the week. What we have come to understand is that eventhough the demographics for the Oneal Lane area are very good, it seems that most people go to other parts of Baton Rouge during our business hours Monday-Friday for their work or business. Which leaves us wanting during the week. All of our other locations do great sales during the week, and then tremendous sales on the weekends when families have a chance to eat together for breakfast or lunch. And the Oneal Lane location does great sales on Saturday and Sunday...thank you to all of our guests that come on those days. However, as the saying goes "man cannot live on bread alone"...a restaurant cannot survive on just weekend sales. We have been marketing to try to drive the sales there during the week, and will continue to offer specials and discounts during Wednesdays thru Fridays to attempt to increase the sales in that location. I have 21 months left on the lease (FYI it's 8,000.00 a month) and will end up moving to another part of Baton Rouge if I can't get the sales up over the next two years. Believe me, I don't want to move a restaurant...I would rather just build another to service the guests we would have in that new market of Baton Rouge. But we need to see an increase during the week in order to stay in that location.
We have also moved the opening hour back to 8am at both locations. Most of the units in Florida and the one in Mandeville are open at either 7:30 or 8am. We originally thought that we would open at 7am in Baton Rouge to serve a larger population, but what we have found is that less than 1% of our sales are coming from the 7-8am hour. I believe that the Lafayette unit has a 7am opening hour, and that they will eventually push that back 7:30 or 8am, but I do not own that unit and they will have to decide which hours of operation are best for them...but I don't think they open at 6am. I have placed a call to the owner and will let you know.
We also believe that we can serve some family diners during the dinner hours at the Old Hammond location. We will be open Sunday and Monday 8am -2pm and Tuesday thru Saturday from 8am till 9pm. For now we will offer the same menu (with 130 items to choose from) but, we should begin to expand the dinner selections within the next few months to include a wider variety of steaks, pastas, and fresh fish. If it works out well...we may open the Oneal Lane location for dinner as well.
I hope this has helped. I only heard about the board from a fellow restaruantuer yesterday and he thought it would be a good idea to fill you in on our decision making process. Hope to see you all at the restaurant, and we are very thankfull for the support we have been given in Baton Rouge.
PS...my wifes family owned the Cotton Club on Highland from 1935 till 1990. She and I both graduated from LSU and love being in Baton Rouge with our restaurants.

That seems like a ridiculous amount to pay for rent.
