I don't get out much, and I haven't the faintest idea of what br has to offer, but Lafayette definately extendeds beyond seafood places and boudin joints. New farm to table standouts like Jolie's, and Saint Street Inn are strong. There is Pamplona's, the French Press, Taco Sisters, and Cochon did come to Laffy in lieu of any town mentioned, there is Cafe des amis, There are great thai restaurants here, and there are a few good food trucks popping up, just to name a few as I'm sure i'm forgetting a ton of places (ie. creole lunch house, pizza village, deano's). b/r is double the size so it would make sense there are more choices there, but per capita we hold our own imo

Probably has a better food scene than BR. Outside of the food trucks.

I agree but that's a different thread

All this talk about the great BR food scene. I'm not trying to take a side here (yet) but I haven't seen anyone post a list of the top BR food venues. How about a list of the top 5 spots that BR would hang their hat on?

I'm talking BR originals only!

Jackson has some good spots. Not as much seafood there but some of their restaurants are very good. I ate at Amerigo's last time I was up there and it was very good.

Yeah. It is a different shite stirring thread. But I worked in Jackson, Ms for a couple of years, and wouldn't trade their food for ours. They have some good spots, and way more than they did 10 years ago, but I'll take our cuisine over theirs all day/everyday.

Stroube's
Maison Lacour
Beausoleil
Gino's
Ruffino's

Latil's Landing, if including metro BR, would be the best restaurant overall without question. Some others probably have a better list, those are just quickly off the top of my head. I don't live in Baton Rouge anymore. Anyone complaining about the food there should move to Lake Charles for a year.

As for the Jackson > BR talk, the only two people I know that have lived in both cities for several years and know food heartily disagree.

Yeah I think those Jackson > BR comments comes from people that haven't spent ample time in either cities. I had ex in laws that dined out quite a bit and lived there for 20 years and not one person in their family would agree w/ Jackson > BR. But, it's all subjective, so...

Digiulio's - Italian
Cafe Roma - Mediterranean
Bay Leaf - Indian
Hunan - Chinese
Juban's - Creole

That's just off the top of my head..

My point is that I appreciate the culture and specialty Cajun foods that Lafayette offers but for the number of options available for the different types of food, to say that Lafayette>>>>>Baton Rouge as a food town is completely incorrect. imho

These additions to the Lafayette restaurant scene are indeed standouts.. innovative and fresh. I also like Donald Link's commitment to organic produce and meats and hope he does a Cochon here and introduce BR to sustainable organic restaurant fine dining.
And while I'm making a wish list, a Johnson's Boucaniere would be nice to have in BR.
