You may be right... The olive garden/red lobster comment has me thinking. That was painfully sterotypical of someone trying to make a point. I should know.

yeah man, thats what tipped me off.

I'm NOT trying to shite you guys. THIS board I respect a little more then that. I'm just struggling to describe the dining experience I'm looking for.
I will ditch copelands for something you guys recommend here, but I still think canes has the appeal for us. There is nowhere up here anything like canes.
I just want to let the girl experience the area, which is so drastically different from where she is from. I thought this might be a better place to go to then the OT, maybe I was wrong.

People don't fry chicken tenders and dip it in a mayo based sauce in Indiana?
Prayers sent.... I guess I seriously underestimated just how bad food really was in Indiana. Being close to Chicago, I would have thought at least something would have spread out there by osmosis or whatever.
I'm not trying to come down on Canes, but seriously tigerfanatic, there's nothing earth shaking going on to write home about is there? Fast food and nostalgia maybe?

I have no problem with you doing whatever, just seems that you touched upon a lot of places that this board seems to hate.

Lunch at Chimes, dinner at Roberto's

What is Baton Rouge/S. Louisiana food to you?

Why do you think you are such an expert on food?

I think I hear what you are asking about. It's not just about the food, but about showing her where you grew up and what it's like down here. Like others said, no need to go to Copelands.
I do think Canes is a good choice for a snack because it's local and it is something you remember fondly. If she thinks it's crap, then laugh it off. It's sharing something that matters.
For me:
Coffee Call
Chimes (decent food, great LSU atmosphere)
Sammy's
Snoballs from somewhere
would be on the list in addition to some of the other ones mentioned.

I would do Louisiana Lagniappe one night for dinner. Sorry my spelling sucks balls.

Ignore the Brewbachers suggestion for lunch. It was sort of tongue in cheek. For poboys, definitely hit up Sammy's. We also have Acme Oyster House here now. Not my favorite, but a New Orleans tradition, and they do make a good roast beef poboy. The Chimes is better than Copelands, similar prices, atmosphere. Check out the TD Dining Guide for more options.

Are you certain you're more of one? Why do opinions bother some of you? It's a FOOD board sweetheart. People have strong opinions on it.

If you have a thing for Cane's, maybe you could do as someone suggested and get a snack there, but it's fried chicken tenders with a ketchup and mayo sauce, for the most part. Not too exciting and certainly not a Louisiana staple. If it's a nostalgic thing for you, I can understand wanting to go there.
I agree with the Acme Oyster House suggestion. For someone not from around here, it will be a "Louisiana experience". You can get true poboys there, roast beef or seafood. It will serve the purpose.
If she'll try oysters, chargrilled oysters are a craze in Louisiana, now, and Mansur's has some great ones. You don't have to be dressed up to eat in the bar area. You don't even have to have a meal there,
if you don't want to, but going for a few drinks and some chargrilled oysters would be tasty and fun.
I don't know how long you've been gone from here, but Copeland's ain't what it once was. Originally, way back when, it was a pretty decent place, but they've cut corners and there's some pre-fab business going on, now. You'd just as soon go to Popeye's.
Roberto's is a good suggestion for dinner. Parrain's and Chimes sound like decent choices for representative foods.
I'm not sure of the best place in BR for boudin if you want to give her taste of that, but it's been discussed here before and some folks could tell you where to go.
I also like to go to Bergeron's in Port Allen for some meat pies, another Louisiana inspired food. You can find something there good enough to eat and show her another aspect of Louisiana foods. I think the boudin is certainly good enough to be sampled by someone who has never had it before. She can try cracklins and stuffed crawfish bread, among other things.
Here's the site if you'd like to peruse it.
