Good morning guys and girls, I have a question that hopefully you all maybe able to help. The last two times I have used my propane burner (once on a cast iron Dutch oven and last night on a pot to fry fish, shrimp, and french fries) it has left black soot all over the bottom of the pots. I am doing what I normally do and this is a new problem. Any idea what the problem could be?

Is your flame yellowish?

Could be improper oxygen mixture.

Does your burner have a regulator that lets you adjust the oxygen flow to get the blue flame?

it was yellow and blue, it has a metal piece on it like a vent that I can adjust. It is wide open so I'm assuming I need to close it some and play around with it.

your jets need to be adjusted to burn more of a blue flame rather than a dancing yellow flame.

Clean your jets and get more O2 to the burner. You are making soot due to incomplete combustion. Make sure burner throats are clean also, spiders and dirt dobbers love that space

Like others have said, adjust your oxygen mix to get a cleaner flame... I have had that happen before.

Closing the vent will allow less oxygen to be pulled in and will make it worse. Pull the brass fitting out and make sure the little tiny orifice is clean and then look down the burner throat and make sure nothing is obstructing the airflow. You will always get a little soot, but if it’s covered, something ain’t right.
