I just finished up the grillades for the game and now I am starting to think about how to keep the grits warm for an extended period of time. I was thinking about using a crockpot but I am not sure if I should cook the grits my usual way on the stove and just transfer them to the crockpot to keep warm or if I can just cook them straight through in the crockpot.

Any other ideas on best way to serve grits at the perfect temp for extended periods of time?

I would cook the usual way and transfer then pray they don't dry out.

My fallback plan is to just do a couple batches staggered throughout the afternoon.

Miz Squirrel, I would think you could crockpot them and then add water one or two tablespoons at a time, as needed to keep the thickness where you wanted it. Use low setting on crockpot.

This is what I’ve done but over a sterno food warmer. Works fine.

Have held grits plenty of times in a crockpot. They take forever to cook that way (hours) but will hold without drying if you stir in butter or heavy cream or half and half. Add a bit of fat keeps them from setting up firm.
