All you fricks and your stupid rolls. Eat Kona's sashimi and see how shitty their fish really is. In fact, at all sushi places, I recommend that you sit at the sushi bar and demand that they give you a taste of their fish before they mask it in rice, avocado, mayo, roe, tabasco, and, holy shite, tenderloin. If they refuse, leave.

I tried Kamados last weekend, and it was probably the worst sushi I've ever had.

Which one? The other one never tastes the same as the one on Sherwood.

People need to keep in mind that the two Komados are completely different from one another, although they share a similar name and menu.

The one off of College is complete trash. The service there is a joke. My mind is boggled every time I go there.

J.C. Komodos on Sherwood Forest Blvd is solid. Well run, good service, good value.

This.

John Chen sold the bennington location a few years ago. Thus the Kamado location on Sherwood became J.C. Kamados so it can be distinguished from the other. The owners of the Bennington location do not have a clue and their sushi chefs are second rate at best.

Sushi Yama has the original chef that started all this sushi craze in baton rouge. Their fish is top notch quality. I see ppl that don't care for them judge them by their rolls off the menu, but hardcore sushi lovers can attest to the freshness of ALL of their fish, not just the fast selling crowd favorites.

Sushi really should be seperated into either rolls or sashimi ... two totally differnent things....

when it comes to Rolls, Koto simply can't be beaten and it's really a shame it hasn't been mentioned more ...

sashimi - probably yama or ichi

A date and I were seated at 9PM on a Saturday night, near the door to the kitchen. Once we sat down, the door swung and stayed open and we got to watch the kitchen staff hosing out the kitchen floor. After waiting twenty minutes for menu's, we left.. I will never, under any circumstance, even if this is the last restaurant on earth that serves sushi, go into Kamado's on Bennington.. for any reason.

Wait.. You came in a thread discussing sushi and went off on people for eating sushi instead of sashimi? WTF?

Some people like cooked rolls, some people like sushi with no fish. Some people like fresh fish rolls. They are all various types of SUSHI.

Sashimi has nothing to do with sushi. Its a whole different item to order. Sushi has to do with the rice. Sashimi has to do with the fish. If you are going to judge a place based on its sushi then its probably best to actually try their sushi.

For whatever reason people dont get that they are completely different dishes.

Sushi can only refer to the item with vinegared rice. Topped or rolled with other ingredients. Sashimi is the fish alone (or beef) and is always raw.

I am talking about the quality of the fish. When you order sashimi, you get the true reality of the fish. When you order a roll, it is masked. I could give a frick about the rice.

The rice is the most important aspect of sushi.

Why order Sashimi if you do not plan on eating sushi with fresh fish? It is VERY possible for a place to have quality sushi without having quality sashimi. You can also have a place with extremely fresh fish but not have quality sashimi. Sushi is all about umami which is caused by the breakdown of the fish from the vinegar in the rice that you dont give a frick about. Without a good ratio of vinegar the sushi can taste like garbage. Sushi is 100% about the rice.

Pretty much every sushi joint will get their sushi from the same source. Its how they do their rice and technique that separates them the most. (Now some lower end places probably wouldnt care about serving you some older supply though)

Because I like sashimi. My point is that many BR places use their old fish in their "special rolls" and mask the taste of their shitty fish.

If you don't like my answer, ignore it.
