I agree that Red Zeppelin is just okay.

Best pizza I've had in BR was at Fleur de Lis, Schlittz, and Mellow Mushroom (I know it's a chain but their pizzas are consistently good IMO).

I wouldn't say that. This board is usually spot on with food recs.

Its easy to see through the bullshite responses and know who not to listen to

Fleur de lis

Pizza is really bad in BR.

I must say that I have never gotten a bad pizza at Mellow Mushroom (near LSU). They are my favorite.

Can someone explain what's so great about Red Zeppelin? I've never been there, but in the photos it just looks like average, run-of-the-mill pizza. The crust doesn't look good at all. What am I missing?

Thought the same thing. It's amazing. It's unique, and very very tasty. Plus they have a pretty good beer selection.

I think its pretty average pizza. Kind of pricey for the quality

Have you had the meatza? It's awesome with Jalepenos. I agree on the price, it's up there, but you can't beat a Med daily 3-6pm for only $6 and allows you to add toppings without charging $3.50 per topping like the pizza nazi.

Yeah, I guess I just don't know who and who not to listen to yet.

Red Zeppelin and Schlitz just look average to me. I've been to Reginellis,Oscars, Mellow Mushroom, Johnny's, and Isabella's and all were pretty much standard; none of them stood out.

I grew up in the northeast where there was good pizza on every corner. In BR the only ones I really think are above-average are Mama Dellas, Roma, and FDL (although I there go for the atmosphere just as much as the pizza.)

Blatantly false.

Most of the regulars are at least a few years out of school.

I stand corrected.

That being said, I still see a lot of amateur-ish advice and recs on here.

I've only been to the Mellow Mushroom in BR once, but I didn't care for it all that much, mainly because I could tell that the dough was old... dough like theirs has a shelf life, and if you don't use it within that certain time, it becomes overly tough and chewy. That's what I experienced -- it was so tough that my jaw was sore from chewing it.

Mellow is more of a cracker like. thin and crisp.
compare to peppers or gattis (but not shitty quality like gattis)

I'm a fleur de lis fan, especially when it's half baked and cooked on the green egg.

Mama Della's. Big drop off from there. Reginellis and Red Zepplin are decent, though. FDL is terrible.

You use the pizza stone for your egg?? Think I'm gonna try that out tomorrow.

I'm only a fan of FDL's large pizzas. Their small size is just not as good. Also, I've found that some of their toppings aren't as good as others for some strange reason. I love the sausage they use there. I also found that it's significantly better if I dine-in as opposed to taking it home. The environment really adds to the experience. I usually get one Round the a World and another with pineapple/Canadian bacon/shrimp.
