I've tried Mandarin Chicken at several places in NO and on the North shore. Everyone I tried was just a fried chicken breast with a light caramel colored sauce and a few almonds. I want to find the old styled mandarin chick/duck that was pressed, battered, fried and cut into cubes in a dark brown gravy with lettuce/bok choy in it and almonds. The main thing is it was shaved fine and pressed, not just a flat piece of meat fried.

I am pretty sure Cafe East in Metairie prepares them this way.

Green Tea has it pressed, battered, fried, and cut into strips. They serve it over lettuce with brown gravy. Not one of my favorite places but the mandarin chicken is pressed.

If anyone would ask about the best Chinese. I would send them to Royal China on Vets..Not so much anymore. I think they might still have really good Hot and Sour soup. The last time I went the Pork Fried Rice was just so so (at best) and the Egg Roles didn't have any meant in them at all.

Thanks, I'll check out Green Tea. I have been to Royal China over the years and in the last year it seems to have gone down hill to me.
