Believe it or not, HEB does the best crawfish in town, and it's not even close. It's dang good; tastes just like home.
None of that "season on the outside" crap. Just great boiled crawfish with your corn, potatoes, etc...
Go get you a couple pounds and bring home. You won't be disappointed.

Interesting, might have to try that out.

La Crawfish Express in Pearland boils in seasoned water.
The crawfish in the picture likely come from a Asian owned store. The Asian's like to put different butter based spice mixtures on there crawfish. A lot of other places sprinkle the seasoning on the outside.

What's that mean? I've not bought commercially prepared crawfish from any place here for reasons stated above, but we tend to get the live ones from HEB because its 2 blocks away (unless I can get them from my buddy in Katy ahead of time). HEB's are generally fairly small and a decent amount of dead loss relative to the other guy, but you get what you pay for for sure.

means small crawfish that are usually sent to the processor to be peeled for tailmeat....unless you can find a market that will buy them. farmer generally gets about $1 less a pound for these
HEB only cares about being able to sell them cheaper than the small guy down the street

Sounds about right and explains why they haven't gotten any bigger since the week after the Superbowl.

I love Houston crawfish...just boil em up in water, take em out dump em on the table and put whatever amount of Tony's on top that YOU like! everybody wins

You people are not looking in the right places. Not exactly Houston, but...
Podzu's in Texas City (https://www.yelp.com/biz/pod-zus-crawfish-shed-texas-city)
&
Pooks crawfish hole in Santa Fe. LINK
And T-bone Toms in kemah usually has good sized bugs, but not spiced enough, IMO.
None of the above put seasoning on the outside.

You're right, there's no fricking chance I'm looking to drive 40 miles to find correctly cooked crawfish.

Those places are nearly to Galveston. That's not Houston.

Crawfish Connection in Humble is the best boiled I've found in Houston. Very little dust on the outside and inside has good flavor. Great boiled shrimp there too.

First time I had theirs I thought they were good, next time we went they were awful. Took a friend that had just moved here and he sent his back.
I haven't tried them again.
