C'mon.. expecting BR to compare to a city the size of Houston is setting BR up for failure.. Just can't happen.
Most similar sized cities to BR, have at least one nice to decently nice sit down full service Chinese resaurant, run by actual Chinese folks. Many have several.
BR really has none anymore.

Hunans' on Sherwood.
not the most quantity, but the best quality. they have a pretty cheap Sunday Buffet.
"ah..you want buffet?"
fried nanas are great too!

Nothing wrong with the place. Big tables with lazy susan's for passing great authentic fair. For a town that thrives on buffets, it is a pretty good place.

Just seems a bit dingier than what I'm referring to, at least from what I recall. It's been a few years since I've been in there.
Also, what sort of business does it do these days?

hunan gets my vote; while their may be no "great" or even "good" chinese places in BR according to many Hunan is some of the best the city can offer.

One of the top Chinese joints I went to in San Frans Chinatown was a shite hole.. Are you talking fancy chinese??

i never really liked hunan all that much, and when they got bad marks from the health dept a couple of years ago that just sealed the deal on me ever eating there.

True for me in NYC as well.

Just sort of a nicer sitdown place that does a decent business I guess. Doesn't have to be one of the over the top type joints (I've eaten at one of those in NYC as well, and really wouldn't expect to see that in BR, or even NO)

Dim Sum and Hunan are the best answers for this thread for sit down places.
If you feel like doing to-go, China Star on Bluebonnet is really good stuff. Authentic, huge portions, and good prices.
I just shake my head at anyone who says Chinese Combo King is the best Chinese in town. Goodness gracious.

When I was in school, there was a hole in the wall place on highland road north of LSU called Red Flower that was really good. However, that was ten years ago so it may have gone downhill.

I like the off-the-menu stuff at Hunan... I highly recommend the prawns with fruit sauce
this.
I went to Dim Sum a few weeks ago, and didn't like it at all. Everything tasted the same. I felt raped after paying $60 for that stuff.

Hunan used to be good. I know the peoples that work there closely...Dim Sum is a rip off and they charge u 18% gratitude without even telling u.

I just picked up a sesame chicken from combo king, but this time I asked them to make it a little spicier, and it's SO much better.
I didn't realize it beforehand, but the guy who works the counter told me that the cooks are Mexican. Who knew.
you would be surprised to find out how mexicans work at a chinese restaurant...its the principle of the chinese economy is to get cheap labor
