Beer flavor profile by ingredients or adjuncts?

In my opinion, a good “tropical” ipa made that way by hop profile is great. Adding tangerines/lemons/oranges/etc just ruins the beer.

Combustible Pineapple milkshake ipa by Pontoon is pretty damn good.

It doesn’t ruin it per se, but I’m definitely way more impressed when they get those flavors with the usual ingredients.

Seems like a lazy approach

I don't mind a touch of orange peel in a pale ale or IPA. Just a touch.
