I also love every one of the abita beers I have had with Jockamo IPA as one of my favorites.
I had the Jockomo IPA this summer for thje first time while visiting my sister in Hattiesburg. I LOVED it. It's think it's now my favorite Abita beer, with Turbo Dog being second.

Someone comapred it to Stone in this thread, but they're two different styles of IPA. Each is good for what it is; The Stone is more highly hopped, while the Jockomo might be a bit more food friendly. We had a big crab boil while I was in and the Jockomo IPA went great with the boiled crabs.

Jockamo is great for Abita IMO but not that great when compared to Stone or some of the other big boys in the IPA world.

+1 Jockamo is more of a Pale Ale than a true IPA. Its ok, I wouldn't refuse one, but there are many IPAs that are better.

The Pilsner is gone now too. Current select is an Amber Ale. I agree that the Oatmeal Stout was by far Abita's best offering.

No, the Andygator is a Doppelbock and is one of their permanent brews.

Dogfish Head

Unfortunately, not available in Louisiana either. Worth trying to 90 minute IPA and 60 minute IPA if you ever stumble upon it.

As for recommendations, I am a big fan of Belgian ales and would recommend trying Delirium Tremens, Duvel, and St. Bernadus Abt. 12. All are readily available in La. (Don't know about Miss.)

Good point. I was saying that Jockamo is sort of the tamer version of an IPA and options like Stone start to push the hop level through the roof. Most people who drink Jockamo for the first time think the hop level is pretty high because they are used to the low hop level of like Abita Amber. So if he really liked Jockamo he should see if he was a fan of highly hoped beers like those that are considered American IPA's (Stone, Dogfish Head 60, 90, 120, etc.)

On a side note, who in LA is excited that Stone comes to the state next week. <--- this guy is.

I've been leaning toward anything amber lately. Don't know why. But I don't think you can beat sitting on a patio somewhere during fall with a pint of octoberfest draft or dead guy ale. Shock top was my favorite summer beer this year. Just to throw something else out there, How about the ESB beers? Like Red Hook. I don't think I saw them mentioned. I agree with basically everything on this thread so far.

I cut my teeth on English Bitter Beer when I went to school in Manchester. Its tough to find a good bitter in the states though. Red Hook is ok. Fullers ESB is better. Some of the american craft brewers make bitter beer but its tough to find around here. Coors bought my fav and proceeded to ruin it.

Never seen or heard of Stones beer. They must not sell it in Mississippi. Like Many other beers.

You can't get it in the US. Closest thing is Boddingtons. But its a poor substitute.

Have you Louisiana guys tried the lazy magnolia beers. There is one for each major university, MSU, Ole Miss, and Southern. Southern Pecan is pretty incredible.

I've had the Southern Pecan, Summer Ale, and Jefferson Stout...

I liked them all, with the Jefferson Stout being my favorite.

I love Abita and IPA's but I think the Jacomho is terrible.

60 min DFH and Stone are my fav IPA's.

I hadn't heard anyone disliking Samuel Smith, those guys have it going on! My fav's are their oatmeal stout and the nut brown ale

Got something called Otter Creek Octoberfest Autumn Ale (made in Vermont) that I got from WF. Definitely a fan.

Probably Tennessee or Florida, depending where you are.
