Bama bball coming to town most likely has all the rooms in Auburn booked.

Yea that would be my guess. I have no idea otherwise.

Gymanastics. Against none other than….LSU. We’ll be there for accepted student day. Yep, my daughter may very well be yelling “war eagle” soon. Thanks again y’all for the help. I was lucky to get reservations at Amsterdam Cafe at 5:00. Everything else was booked. Nothing after 1:30 at the hound. I may call.

Try doing the hound for lunch or something. I’ve had good luck there when they open and wait not being too long, even on gamedays. It is right downtown, so can always put a name in and walk around toomer’s.

Amsterdam is good. They have a decent crab cake. There's a coffee shop next door too. Amsterdam is about 3/4 mile from Toomer's Corner. Mo' Bay Beignets is a nice stop for something sweet if you are walking around the downtown area (which is pretty small).
Your daughter will do fine at Auburn.

Little secret for you as a backup plan: You can walk in any time at Acre and sit at the bar, which has several seats. They serve their full menu at the bar and most people at the bar will be eating. If it’s only two or three of you, you should have no trouble getting a seat.

Now that you have seen all of the legit recomendations, I would like to say that as far as I know, Auburn had the last Shakey's pizza parlor east of California/Washington State. As I understand, there are 20 or so Shakey's parlors out in California but none elsewhere.
The first date my wife and I had was to the old Shakey's Pizza Parlor in the Fondren neighborhood in Jackson, maybe 60 years ago, followed by seeing Dr. Zhivago at the Capri Theater a block west of the Shakey's.
We had known each other for maybe two years, but, that was the night I fell in love. The pizza was really good too. Shrimp and Italian Sausage, very thin crispy crust. After that night, we never had anything other than that pizza combination at Shakey's, until the one in Jackson closed a few years later to become the Fondren post office.
The chain still had pizza locations in Dallas/Ft. Worth when we moved there many years later, and we dined at the one in Auburn several times before it shut down for good.
Sigh.

quote:Probably should start another thread to recall the list of Fondren restaurants starting from when my family moved there in 1960. Favorites were Brent's, the pizza place on Old Canton right before State Street, and the weird restaurant around where PJ's coffee is now. Entrance was in the back, decor was early-bordello, and my parents let me know in no uncertain terms that I was not to utter one sound the whole time I was in there. But I knew it was fancy and that my folks loved it, so I kept my mouth shut.

I was sorry the Shakey's closed. Maybe not my favorite pizza, but it was decent and their lunch was legit. Some of the best fried chicken in town.
