I agree with you that they are very entitled bit a server can leave very quickly hence the hate for late tables. Basic opportunity cost to them: your 20% tip or pre closing so they can leave asap

I really think we're on the same page.

Right or wrong the mentality is there and many customers understand it. I accept i am there for a bit after either way so security and a proper close are what matters for me. The 18-23 year old girl wants to go see her friends

It goes to show each restaurant had their own identity and challenges. Mine is dealing with 50+ angels

People are saying that you are rude/inconsiderate if you do.

So the customer is the a-hole for doing what the restaurant is ok with?

This makes absolutely zero sense lol

I have no sympathy for restaurants that are ok with having customers come in 5 minutes before close and whine about it

l. It is common for someone to not want more work 10 minutes before it is time to go.

I’ll ask for the 20th time: customers should know a restaurants staffing schedule that’s done behind the scenes? Does every employee walk out the door when the clock strikes the posted restaurant close time?

Special orders slow things down and you have to have some limits for those people.

Is someone trying to get seated 10 minutes prior to restaurant closing time a “special order” ?

But if the establishment doesn’t have a last seating time, then people shouldn’t be doing “closing duties” until the restaurant is…..closed, or until their tables are gone.

We aren't going to come to any middle ground with a comment like that

There’s no middle ground really. Restaurants should have a closing time and a last seating time. This should be clearly explained to customers.

If you don’t, then you deal with it.

If you told restaurant employees they cannot pre close they will look at you funny. Honest question: have you worked in a restaurant?

Of course I have. I understand it. But don’t bitch about it if your restaurant is setup that way. Bitch at your ownership or management

You're blowing this out of proportion. There doesn't need to be a policy on everything. Sometimes people just want to get home and sometimes people are willing to help them with that.

Apparently there does need to be a policy when posters here are claiming that anyone abiding by what’s a restaurant allows is an a-hole lol

I'll get a drink from the bar and an app that i know takes agonist no prep within 20 minutes of close but as a rule i usually consider a place closed 30 minutes before listed closing time.
