Yes, there was one on Acadian Thruway in BR across from TJ Ribs location. It was where the Denny's is now. I think Denny's bought them all.

The chain was owned by Sam Battistone, who also owned the New Orleans Jazz.

Ahem. There hasn't been a Dennys in BR in quite some time there bud. How they and Shoneys disappeared from the city I really have no clue.

Unless my memory is getting much worse than I realize (which is possible), there was one in BR back in the 73 through 77 timeframe (or maybe it was in some other SEC town and I remember it from a road trip). I think the name of the chain was changed to Jolly Tiger and it was subsequently acquired by some other group.

I remember the radio commercial: "There's no way to feel but gooo-ooo-oood.......after you've been to Sambo's!"
the original Sambo's is still open in Santa Barbara, California

this is correct. My mother would take me to the Sambos on Saturday mornings for breakfast, it was our weekly thing as a kid
Po Folks was next, lasted a bit but went down quickly. McD's is there now or was last time I was that way

You bet I do. It was the late night stop back when I was in high school in Livermore, CA. They changed the name to Seasons when the name Sambo's was deemed politically incorrect.
The restaurant had a mural depicting the tale of Li'l Black Sambo riding the tiger.

I seem to remember one along the way from New Orleans to Shreveport. I think there was a Western Sizzlin next to it.

I too was a member of the birthday club, and had the Little Black Sambo book. Years later I still had it and my black roommate was very offended by it.

I've only dated black women for the last 20 years. I wonder if my early days at Sambo's had some kind of unknown influence
