My mother in law got me this smoke box and gun along with an assortment of different wood chips for Christmas.

LINK

Have not tried it yet but I picked up some good gouda and cheddar that I am going to try out tonight along with a smoked old fashioned. Any tips of how to do the cheese and what other foods it works well with would be appreciated.

Put whatever you want in a bowl and seal the hose up inside with Saran Wrap.

Click the link. This actually has a glass box the hose connects to.

I know how it works. I was asking for tips from people who have used one like what type of wood is good for cheeses, how long to smoke etc.

We got that exact setup as a wedding gift, the box itself is a bit leaky so if you intend to smoke something and have it sit for a bit, like cheese, you will indeed need to put it in a bowl and wrap it to hold in the smoke. I'll use it on an Old Fashion every so often, it's different but not bad, I still prefer a regular Old Fashion.

Not a whole bunch to be honest, a few cocktails here and there, mainly Old Fashions or just a straight bourbon, been wanting to try a bloody mary but haven't yet. My wife made some sort of smoked salad for a party but I never got to try it.

Bumping this because I have a client who is big time foodie and we were talking about smoke guns. She says sometime she cooks a pork butt in a slow cooker and then used a smoke gun to impart a smoky flavor. Says it tastes like it had been on a smoker for hours. I’m a little skeptical but think I’m going to give a try today. Anyone here tried this before?

Pork butt cooked in the slow cooker is not the same as one cooked in a smoker. It might be a cool shortcut but it won't be the same.

When I am feeling ridiculous I smoke my old fashioned glasses with pecan wood.

I lay the woodchips in a small pile. Torch them. Then cover with the glass for a minute.

I know but it’s still pretty good. I rub down well with a bbq rub then get a good dear on it. Put a layer of slice onions at the bottom and cook for four hours on high , shred then add bbq sauce and cook another hour. I thinking using the smoke gun will make it better.
