Looking into getting a small charcoal grill that takes very little space, (currently have a large natural gas grill.)
Anyone have any good experience with the jumbo joe?

I have the 22.5” premium kettle, and I imagine they’re similar in construction. Best grill I’ve ever owned. Ive gotten it up to 700+ pizzas and done 14 hour smokes for brisket and butts. Tons of accessories available everywhere. Very well made for the money.

I’m tempted to go ahead and get the 22” on wheels.
I just like the idea that the other one takes up so little room and has to legs
It’s like the lieutenant Dan of grills.
I don’t know if 18” is enough space though, I guess I need to see one in person.

Do you think 18” is too small to use?

18 would probably be best for a 4-6 person cookout.

Would still be practical for an indirect cook or smoking
By puttting charcoal or wood grouped to one side?

I usually pile my charcoal in the middle and indirect everything on the outside of that. It works out well. I have never smoked anything on it as I have a WSM.

eta: The 18 would make it slightly harder to do that depending on your amount of charcoal.

If you’re looking to smoke in 230-250* range, Google the snake charcoal method. It was stupid easy, the kettle will hold that for at least 12 hours once you figure out your vents.

18" is enough to cook a whole spatchcocked chicken and 2-3 links of anoudille on indirect heat. Hope this helps.

Mini Akorn Grill

I couldn't justify paying for a ceramic, but I have had good success with these Akorns. I have both the full size and mini and love them. There's definitely a learning curve, but that's part of the fun. The size is comparable to a large pizza from Dominos. It doesn't take up much space and for being on sale, it's a great deal. Temp anywhere from 200F to 700F.

I have a 22" and have cooked for up 18-20 people. It hold 5 racks of ribs or 2 Boston Butts or a brisket, as mentioned the snake method is your friend.

If you grilling an 18" would be ideal Ideal for 4-6 people.

Going from a 22 down to an 18 you would loose about 126 sq inches of cooking space.
