Anyone French Press their Coffee? Recipe?

Purchased a French press and some course ground beans. Wondering how much grounds to use for 4 -8oz cups of water, and how long to steep the grounds.
I assume 2 tablespoons of grounds for each 8 oz cup of water. Pour boiling water over grounds, stir and steep for 4 minutes.

4 minutes. If you have a caraffe that will help also. The coffee starts to get bitter after 5 minutes or so.

Every morning. 6 heaping tablespoons, filled to the top with hot water from ninja coffee maker, Push filter to water level and let sit for about 5 minutes and then push down to filter coffee.

I don't French press anymore. Too oily. I enjoy more on the other end of the Brew spectrum. Bonmac, chemex, and v60 although not my favorite.

Started doing pour overs because I was tired of the mess of the french press. Plus the residual coffee grinds caught me every now and again on the last sip.
Much preferred. Use a Chemex 8 cup.

Thanks for reminding me I have been meaning to give that a shot.

What kettles do you guys use for your pourovers?

2 or 3 tablespoons of grounds depending on how strong you like your coffee. Steep for 4 minutes, then press and pour.

I have a cheap generic one, but I think the spout is too wide.
Need to get something with a narrow spout I think, only makes pouring for the bloom a little hard. Usually go over the weight.
I'm not a nazi when it comes to weight, try to stay near 55g grinds, 50g to bloom, 600g total water weight.

Ft what you’re describing is just about where we are with things. Man I hate cleaning that damn thing, the grounds are a mess, and it’s pretty oily. My buddy recommends an aero press. I have no experience with that. If I was making for myself, I’d be strictly Chemex. But I seldom drink it, so

Aeropress is fine. Full immersion with a filter. Gives you solid cup but still removes the oils. Much cleaner than a French press and easy to clean. Also, you don't need a gooseneck kettle.

I do Chemex because that is what was there when I went to buy. It is a beaker, so I'm not sure how much the really technical side makes a difference at 3am when I half blind and cursing the world.

That part I don't understand. I put a little bit extra water in it and dump it in the garbage, not down the drain. Rinse and maybe separate the grinds from the filter area separately .
Not a big deal for me.
It is a bit more work than pulling a filter and throwing it away.

I use my aeropress mostly. 3-4 tbsp coffee grinds. I do the reverse method. Stick the plunger in just enough to create a seal. Add your grinds. Boil water in kettle. Once it starts screaming shut off the heat and let sit for 2 minutes. Fill aero 3/4 full with hot water. Gently stir. Let sit for 2 minutes. Top off aero, screw on top with filter. Let sit another 30 seconds. Push plunger down on press in coffee cup. Add a little more hot water to your coffee cup.
This way gives you a little more concentrated coffee in the cup, and you can add hot water to dilute it however much you will. I only add about 2 oz. of hot water to my coffee cup.

My understanding (based on an old Alton Brown episode) is that the oiliness is because you pushed down too fast, if you do it really slow, the oils emulsify into the coffee. It is supposed to take a whole minute for you to slowly push it down.
It could also be that the sieve isn't fine enough?

I had to look that up, says 30 secs though but you are still correct inasmuch as taking your time to push down.
