Yep, burned the crap out of it on my first try, but figured it out afterwards. It was tricky to figure out the right heat.
You have to cook the crust first for a bit before
adding the ingredients.

yes. They are good. Make your dough. Throw on a medium grill, flip after 20-30 seconds, add toppings, drop the lid, eat when done.

Really? I wouldn't have thought of that.

You should also pre-cook the toppings because you're not going to have the pizza on the grill long enough to fully cook them.

Good call on the toppings. It is best to use quick cook toppings like mushrooms. Meats don't work as well. I've used a pizza stone as well. That helps with the burn.

That's how we always do it when camping. Cook toppings, except for cheese. Cook the crust.
Assemble with cheese and maybe some pre-heated sauce. Then just melt it all together on the grill.

oh yeah Pizza on the grill is awesome. Remember to pre-cook that crust though and get the coals as far from the pizza as you can. My grill lets me raise or lower the coals but if yours doesnt then make the fire on one side and put the pizza on the other size and be sure to rotate it.

do it often and its great.
Gives the pizza the smokey wood fire pizza taste.
I use a pizza stone now.
But you can go to home depot and get an unglazed mexican tile ($1) and use that, works great.
Use the lump charcoal, and I'll even a few hunks of oak firewood..
I have a very large pit however

I haven't tried doing it with a homemade pizza but during Gustav, we put some Papa Murphy's pizzas on the grill and it came out pretty good. I was drunk as hell, so I can't recall exactly how we did it.

during gustav. it was alright. and once a friend of mine cooked one on one of those big green eggs. I thought the crust was over done on the bottom and doughy on the top, but didnt tell him anything cuz he was super proud of himself.

Yeah. You kind of have to do the crust first by itself. Hell, I do that when I make a homemade pizza in my oven.
I did make some frozen Totino's pizzas on the grill once. I basically took a piece of foil folded over like 4 times and cooked them on that, and on the lowest setting possible on the grill. Worked great.

That's why you cook one side first and then flip the crust before adding toppings. You might be able to skip this if you use a stone though.

Have a friend try this and cracked the stone, too hot of a fire.
