It was cheap, but it was also garbage.

I pretty much lived off Egg Roll King in my 20's. It was cheap but loaded with fresh veg and sauces that weren't too sweet. Very obviously handmade egg rolls.

Friend,
I will miss the aesthetic of it and how it is a holdover of locally owned small business that once lined nearly all of Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
The food, however, was not very good. In culinary terms, it is less a loss to our dining heritage than was Taco Rico’s closure a mile west. My hunch is that very few people have ever eaten there, and it only came to the larger New Orleans consciousness after the nuclear holocaust-roach meme from 2016.
I did snap a few years ago a beautiful picture of the ERH’s drive through and back section, perhaps the only extant such picture. For historical purposes can we all remember that ERH lost its signage during Hurricane Ida in 2021, not a vague and distant “years ago” which was mentioned in the recent Picayune article about it.

I will miss more the donut shop that was there before the egg roll house. Where I cut my teeth on my first apple fritter.

I’ve been going to Egg Roll House on Vets since the late 80’s. About once a month or so. Used to go to their other location on Carrollton by Earhart when I was in college in the 90’s too.
Will absolutely miss it.
It was never very great, but it was cheap and they always filled the carton.
We’ve never had drive thru Chinese ever in the NOLA area aside from this place, and I’ll definitely miss it.

It’s still open on Williams.
